5 fashion trends that were basically made for summer in Toronto, Canada Reviews

30 June 20263 Mins Read

If you’re planning on spending your summer in the city, you know it requires a very specific sartorial approach — sticky Toronto summers aren’t for the weak. It just so happens that these fashion trends were practically made for July in the 6ix.

The World Cup landed at just the right time in Toronto, because the fashion world is ablaze with uniform-inspired details that go beyond the pitch. All you need is one accent to give your outfit a sporty edge: think jersey-style Ts, double stripes and technical materials (double points for breathability). Trust Peace Collective for jersey shirts that will fit right into any wardrobe.

Summer suiting

It may be Toronto’s best season, but that doesn’t mean the work stops. Luckily, this fashion trend will make post office drinks even easier. Summer suiting calls for remixing those professional pieces and giving the classic suit a warm weather upgrade. Check out Toronto designer Smythe’s takes on the trend: a vintage peony print flowy blazer paired with matching Bermuda shorts or a simple brown vest-short pairing, complete with a cropped sleeve one-button blazer.

Capri comeback

You heard that right: capris are back. And while July is usually pretty hot in Toronto, we can get some unpredictable weather, which makes this not-quite-pants, more-than-shorts alternative the ideal style solution. Toronto’s Hilary MacMillan just released a denim culotte that totally fits the bill.

Live life on the wedge

Sure, our transit can be unpredictable and traffic sucks, but there’s one form of transit that will never fail in Toronto: walking. And the answer to a summer shoe that is both funky and functional is the sturdy wedge — no more tiny heels getting stuck in streetcar tracks. The 2026 version of this shoe is a lot more minimalist, often with sculptural cut-outs or pointed toes. L’Intervalle has a silvery version that definitely looks the part, and Aldo has a classic wedge thong sandal favoured by celebrities.

Pyjama party

There’s a theme we’re sensing among a few key trends popping up this season: basically, everyone’s dressing like they’re ready for a sleepover. We’re talking lace-trimmed camis and shorts, silky pieces, loose cotton pyjama pants and even actual boxers. If you don’t want to look like you literally rolled out of bed, opt for just one of these pieces and pair it with denim or other more hardy fabrics, plus a ton of accessories. The best part about this trend is just how comfortable and airy it is: silk and cotton clothes are basically built for a Toronto summer, especially during a particularly suffocating heat wave like the one happening this week. Try Aritizia’s lace trim shorts for a satin take on the trend, or these adorable floral print boxer shorts from Tusk. And Left on Friday’s coastal pant delivers the perfect casual, pyjama-adjacent vibe.
