5 Halloween-themed bars to visit in Calgary before October ends

19 October 20263 Mins Read

There are only a couple of weekends left in October, and if you haven’t made any Halloween plans yet, we’re here to help. Restaurants and bars across Calgary have been transforming their spaces for spooky season, with themed cocktails, creepy decor, and seasonal experiences that make going out a little more exciting.

So if you’ve been meaning to plan a night out before Oct. 31 rolls around, we’ve rounded up five Halloween-themed bars around the city that deserve a spot on your list.

The Crypt and The Crow has taken over TOPS Pizza South with skulls, tombstones, and dozens of crows. There are even 100 hidden spiders scattered throughout the space, including one giant five-foot spider.

Along with the spooky decorations, there will also be a special menu of food and drinks, including the Charred Remains, an Old Fashioned made with pumpkin spice syrup and served with a smoked orange slice under an iron skull.

Where: 9919 Fairmount Dr. SE, Calgary, Alta.

The Nightmare Bar at Limericks Traditional Pub offers a 90-minute Halloween experience with themed cocktails, music, interactive games, and photo opportunities. You can also compete for prizes throughout the session, and each ticket includes a complimentary drink.

Where: 7304 Macleod Trl. S., Calgary, Alta.

While The Potion Room already has a fantasy-inspired atmosphere year-round, its Spirits and Spells Halloween pop-up is bringing out the Halloween decor and a special menu of cocktails and mocktails. The menu includes drinks like Stabbed From Behind, which is made with salted caramel, vanilla, and espresso, and the Ride My BroomStock mocktail, featuring lychee, black chai tea, and Asian pear. There are also food options and a four-for-$20 shot deal.

Where: 1211 9th Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta.

Tropical YYC is celebrating Halloween with two weekends of themed parties. The Latin-inspired bar will have mariachi music, live DJs and $1,000 in costume prizes, so if you’ve got an impressive look, you could win some money!

Where: 213 10th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

While it’s not specifically a Halloween-themed bar, Prohibition Bar and Lounge is a 1920s-inspired speakeasy where you can solve a fictional murder by piecing together clues and evidence during its Detective Date Night, which is hosted every Wednesday.

Where: 720 17th Ave. SW, Calgary, Alta.

Halloween only comes around once a year, so you might as well make the most of it while you can! Grab your friends, put on your best costume, and head to one of these Calgary bars before October comes to a close.
