5 parks to visit in Edmonton with stunning fall colours

16 October 20263 Mins Read

There’s still time to get outdoors this season, and Edmonton is home to some great parks that absolutely burst with colour in the fall.

If you’re looking to take a stroll, ride a bike, or just enjoy nature this fall, we’ve rounded up some of the best parks in Edmonton to visit to scratch that itch. From parks with trails deep in the river valley to newly renovated spots with waterfront walkways, we’ve got it all.

So, if you’re ready to get an eyeful of some of the most scenic fall views at parks in the city, let’s get into it.

With over 100 years of history, Borden Park is filled with art, walking paths, and even a formal flower garden during the spring and summer seasons. In the fall, this spot is perfect for taking a stroll on one of its many trails, hanging with friends, or simply enjoying the outdoors.

Where: 7507 Borden Park Rd., Edmonton, Alta.

According to the City of Edmonton, this park spans 68 hectares and boasts more than just River Valley views. Hawrelak Park has wide‑open meadows, shady picnic spots, and an adjacent five‑hectare lake. Here, you can find an extensive, accessible paved pathway system perfect for walking and cycling year-round, including a lakefront walkway to enjoy the scenery.

Plus, after being closed for three years of construction and reopening this year, Hawrelak Park has a whole bunch of fabulous new amenities to enjoy. This includes a brand-new playground, renovated picnic shelters, drop-in picnic sites, and an upgraded Heritage Amphitheatre.

Where: 9330 Groat Rd. NW, Edmonton, Alta.

Rundle Park is located on the north bank of the North Saskatchewan River, sitting in the northeastern part of Edmonton. Like the other parks, it features a bunch of facilities, including sports fields, trails, picnic sites, and even its own golf course.

During the winter months, it’s even got its own skating paths and toboggan hills. However, during the fall, it’s a gorgeous cascade of colours everywhere you look.

Where: 2909 113th Ave., Edmonton, Alta

Surrounded by the lush scenery of the Edmonton River Valley, this park has some of the best fall views in the city. With the creek, beautiful pathways and trails, and leaves showing off all their different colours, this park is a great place for that picture-perfect photo op.

According to the City of Edmonton, it’s also a hot spot for dog walkers, runners, and mountain bikers. No matter how you find yourself in the river valley, you’ll be sure to find yourself enchanted.

Where: 76th Avenue NW, Edmonton, Alta.

This park, according to the City, is located between these three hot spots in the area: Fort Edmonton Park, the John Janzen Nature Centre, kihcihkaw askî, and Whitemud Equine Centre.

Aside from being well-located, it offers many picnic sites, multi-use trails, and a popular toboggan hill in the winter. There’s also a convenient little spot in the park, the Alfred H. Savage Centre, which has public washroom facilities and is available for year-round bookings.

Where: 13204 Fox Dr. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
