Horseback riding doesn’t have to stay a summer activity, and in Alberta, there are more than a few places that continue the fun experience into the fall season.
If you’re looking to go on an adventure this fall, horseback riding is a great way to get outside, take in the fresh air, and explore the trails and sights Alberta has to offer.
There are day-long adventures and rides that only last an hour, as well as rides both near the city and deep in the wild, giving you a wide range of options for your next journey.
Without further ado, let’s explore some of the horseback riding experiences Alberta has to offer.
Boundary Ranch’s riding season lasts from May to October each year, meaning there’s still a little more time to get in a good ride.
There are a variety of different trails and rides you can explore at this ranch. This includes rides like the Ridge Ride, a two-hour journey through the Kananaskis Valley for $194 plus taxes and fees, and the Kananaskis Adventure Ride, a full-day experience guiding you through creeks, forests, and mountain trails for $425 plus taxes and fees.

Banff Trail Riders offers a variety of one- to four-hour horseback riding journeys in the stunning Banff National Park, with select tours ending mid-September and some continuing into October. On these tours, you’ll get to experience scenic mountains, rivers and waterfalls, and some of the most breathtaking sights in the province.

This ranch in Red Deer offers guided horseback riding tours at only $68.90 for an hour-long ride around the area. According to its booking page online, it’s actively taking reservations up until the end of October. After the 31st, you’ll have to call for availability.
When: Daily until Saturday, Oct. 31, 2026

Where: 6300 Cronquist Dr., Red Deer, Alta.
Cost: $68.90 (including taxes and fees)
If you’re looking for an experience a little bit closer to the city, Putting Horse Ranch is just west of Edmonton, offering horse experiences as well as wagon rides.
For $99 plus GST, you can spend time with a horse, brushing and light riding. This experience is still available for now, with no clear end to the season on its website. Just call 780-962-5232 to find a date and time and pre-pay to book.

According to its website, Moose Mountain has been offering horseback adventures since 1991. Not only that, but you’ll be able to take advantage of these expeditions year-round. From trail rides to riding clubs to full-fledged vacations, this is one of the best spots to get the full riding experience.
