First Looks at Saura Lightfoot-Leon & Louis Landau as Kick Kennedy & Billy Cavendish in Netflix’s ‘Kennedy’

Netflix recently released the first look at Michael Fassbender as Joe Sr. Kennedy in its biopic drama Kennedy, alongside the full list of cast members. Just a few days later, we have new exclusive first looks behind the scenes with Saura Lightfoot-Leon and Louis Landau as Kick Kennedy & Billy Cavendish.

Kennedy is an upcoming biographical drama produced by Pulitzer Prize-winning historian Chernin Entertainment and created by Sam Shaw (Manhattan). On board as a producer for the series is Fredrik Logevall, who wrote the novel JFK: Coming of Age in the American Century. The novel documents the history of the Kennedy family, the USA’s closest equivalent to a royal family.

The Crown ended in 2023, and Kennedy is perfectly situated as the natural successor. The series will begin in the 1930s, following Joe Kennedy Sr. (Michael Fassbender), and the lives, romances, careers, and tragedies of his children. For the full preview of Kennedy, you can find it here.

Such stars we will see in the first season of Kennedy are Saura Lightfoot-Leon as Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy, the fourth child of Joe Kennedy Sr., and Rose Kennedy, and Louis Landau as Billy Cavendish, the Marquess of Hartington, and a member of the British aristocracy.

With filming ongoing in London since February (see our first snaps here), we have our very first look at the pair in action as Kick Kennedy and Billy Cavendish, with these snaps taken over the weekend (March 29th) at Waterloo Place in the City of Westminster.

The historians amongst the readership may already know of the story of Kathleen Kennedy and Billy Cavendish, but for those unaware of the Kennedy family history, there are spoilers ahead for the series.

Kathleen ‘Kick’ Kennedy was the second daughter and fourth child overall of Joe Sr. and Rose Kennedy. While her father was serving as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Kingdom, Kick made her debut in 1938, and when war broke out in Europe, instead of returning to the USA, she convinced her parents to let her remain in England, where she would work with the American Red Cross and later marry William ‘Billy’ Cavendish, Marquess of Hartington in 1944.

Sadly, the marriage would be short-lived. Only four months later, Billy would lose his life at the hands of a German sniper while on active service in Belgium. He is buried close to where he passed, and was succeeded by his younger brother, Andrew Cavendish, as the heir apparent to the dukedom.

Just one of many tragedies would strike the Kennedy family, as only four years later, Kick Kennedy would lose her life while on a flight from Paris to the French Riviera. She was only 28 at the time of her death and was buried at the same family burial grounds of her late husband in St Peter’s Churchyard, Edensor, outside of Chatsworth, Derbyshire.
