The 2026 World Cup is just around the corner, and to get everyone in football mood, Netflix is releasing a brand-new documentary on May 7, 2026, chronicling the 1994 World Cup-winning Brazil team. With interviews and never-before-seen footage captured by the players themselves, USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory isn’t to be missed.

USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory is an upcoming Brazilian Netflix Original sports documentary produced by Trailer Films with Luis Ara as the producer, writer, and director.

There’s plenty of Brazilian football content to watch and to look forward to on Netflix. A brand-new miniseries centered on the 1970 World Cup-winning team is set to arrive soon, and a documentary on one of Brazil’s best players, Ronaldinho, recently arrived. In 2025, Netflix also released a documentary on the Brazilian and Real Madrid forward, Vini Jr.

When is USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory coming to Netflix?

Netflix has confirmed that USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory will be released on Netflix on May 7, 2026.

With the World Cup hosted by the USA for a second time since 1994, and co-hosted by neighbors Mexico and Canada, it will be the perfect watch before the start of the 2026 World Cup.

A trailer for the documentary has also been released.

What is the USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory about?

First, some background on the Brazil team prior to the 1994 World Cup.

Brazil is one of the greatest international football teams of all time, and the only team to have won the World Cup five times (1958, 1962, 1970, 1994, 2002). The football-mad country saw unprecedented success between 1958 and 1970, winning three World Cups, with football legends such as Pelé, Zito, Didi, Carlos Alberto, Tostão, and more.

Despite dominating the international stage for 12 years, Brazil would face a 24-year wait for its next World Cup victory, a period littered with failed campaigns. In the 1970s, Brazil’s flair was overshadowed by the tactical organization of European teams, and despite having one of the best attacking sides in the world between 1982 and 1986, their all-out attack style, led by Socrates and Zico, saw their defense flounder. 1990 was their worst campaign since 1966, when they underwent a complete change in identity to a defensive style under Sebastiao Lazzaroni.

Off the back of a disastrous 1990 World Cup campaign, Brazil left it until the final round of qualifiers to secure their place in the 1994 World Cup. With a team devoid of confidence but returning to offensive identity, the pressure was firmly on for Brazil to deliver a World Cup win after a 24-year drought.

USA 94: Brazil’s Return to Glory will chronicle Brazil’s journey to the final and feature interviews with several members of the team, including Romário, Bebeto, Branco, Raí, Zinho, Dunga, Márcio Santos, and Viola. Fans will also get to view never-before-seen footage of the Brazil team behind the scenes, thanks to footage caught on video cassette by goalkeeper Gilmar Rinaldi and right back Jorginho.

Netflix has also provided a synopsis for the documentary:

“This is the story of Brazil’s fourth World Cup title, won in 1994, as told by its key protagonists: the players from the Brazilian team and their rivals. The film was created using previously unseen content recorded by the athletes themselves over the course of the tournament. This is the story of Brazil’s return to glory for the first time since the golden days of Pelé. The team that arrived at the World Cup dealt with skeptics in the press and distrust from fans. But thanks to teamwork, the leadership of captain Dunga, and goals from Bebeto and Romário, they won their fourth title.”
