Netflix has unveiled a haunting first look at The Last House (previously known as 11817, and internally, it seems, as Hideaway), an upcoming sci-fi survival thriller from director Louis Leterrier. Starring Greta Lee and Wagner Moura, the new movie is officially set to hit Netflix globally on August 7th, 2026.

If you’re a fan of claustrophobic, high-stakes thrillers like Leave the World Behind or 10 Cloverfield Lane, this one needs to go straight onto your watchlist. Blending horror, sci-fi/fantasy, and survival elements, The Last House has been quietly in the works for a while, but Netflix has finally pulled back the curtain.

Here’s an updated version of everything you need to know about The Last House.

What is the plot of The Last House?

Written by Matthew Robinson, the film promises to be a tense, single-location nightmare. Here is the official logline for the movie:
“A family of four are suddenly sealed inside their home with no way out, and they must work to survive against both their dwindling resources and the mysterious, looming threat that is keeping them trapped.”

Alongside the release date announcement, which came alongside a bunch of dates for Summer movies, Netflix has dropped a batch of gripping first-look images that perfectly capture the movie’s claustrophobic and desperate tone.

The images give us a peek into the family’s terrifying new reality. In one shot, we see the family of four peering anxiously through a fogged, rain-streaked window. Another incredibly tense image highlights the “dwindling resources” mentioned in the logline, showing the parents and their daughter literally tearing up the floorboards of their living room to plant a makeshift indoor vegetable garden.

Other stills showcase a terrified Greta Lee hiding in the shadows, Wagner Moura staring blankly through condensation-covered glass, and the entire family huddled together in their pajamas, looking absolutely paralyzed by an unseen threat off-camera.

Who is in the cast of The Last House?

The movie features a tight, incredibly talented core cast. Early on in the movie’s life, Past Lives star Greta Lee and Kingsley Ben-Adir were in negotiations to lead the film; the final cast list confirms that Narcos and Civil War star Wagner Moura has stepped into the co-lead role alongside Lee. They will be playing the parents of the trapped family.

Also confirmed to be in the cast are: Emma Ho (The Expanse), Gabriel Barbosa (May December), Noah Alexander Sosnowski (Section 8), Nancy Baldwin (Everest), Riley Chung (The Hunger Games: The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes), Lewis Goody (Virdee) as Greg, Sid Edwards (Geezers) as Max Richardson, Jed Aukin (The Courier) as Scott, Tawny Fontana (My Don Quixote) as Jasmine.

Who is behind the movie?

French filmmaker Louis Leterrier is sitting in the director’s chair. Leterrier is no stranger to Netflix, having previously directed the Emmy-winning series The Dark Crystal: Age of Resistance and the smash-hit French series Lupin. His blockbuster credits also include Fast X and Now You See Me.

Speaking initially about the film, Leterrier said the film “challenges the idea of a safe haven, turning a family home into a hostile environment where survival demands unity. This is an ordinary family’s worst nightmare, pushing them to their limits to protect each other and exposing the fragility of security — and the desperate fight to reclaim it.”

The film is a co-production between Netflix, Chernin Entertainment, 3 Arts Entertainment, Rocket Science, and Carrousel Studios (the production company co-founded by Lupin star Omar Sy).

Producing the feature are Leterrier, Kori Adelson, Peter Chernin, Joe Neurauter, Oly Obst, Omar Sy, and Jenno Topping.

Behind the camera, the creative team includes cinematographer Pal Ulvik Rokseth (22 July), composer Yair Elazar Glotman (Reptile), and production designer Kevin Jenkins (Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker). Casting was handled by Lucy Rands and Alyssa Weisberg.

When and where was The Last House filmed?

Production for The Last House took place overseas. Cameras rolled in London, England from late March 2025 through early June 2025.
