Over 40 Richmond museums, galleries, and historic sites will be free to visit for two days this June

21 May 20263 Mins Read

If frequenting more museums or discovering a new exhibit has been on your radar for a while, Doors Open Richmond is the perfect opportunity to explore vibrant local art and history scenes. Now in its 19th year, the event makes dozens of partner sites completely free to visit for one weekend only.

This year, over 40 cultural organizations, public facilities, and historical landmarks will open their doors, allowing visitors to explore at their own pace.

“Richmond is shaped by a rich mix of cultures, unique perspectives, and lived experiences,” says Bilan Hassan, Chair of the Richmond Museum Society. “The event celebrates that diversity by inviting the public to connect with the people and places that define the community, including business leaders who share their unique experiences. Visitors can explore unique foods, interactive museums, enjoy cultural performances, and step inside faith-based institutions that reflect the city’s global character.”

This June, visitors will get a behind-the-scenes look at Richmond’s geothermal energy system, Alexandra District Energy Utility, as well as new participants like the Richmond Potters Club and London Farm, which tells the story of farming in Richmond from 1990 to 1930.

Free bus tours

Free bus tours are also back, with the Sacred Spaces Tour visiting different places of worship, including the Eastern Catholic Church, Lingyen Mountain Temple, and Nanaksar Gurdwara Gursikh Temple on Saturday, and India Cultural Centre of Canada – Gurdwara Nanak Niwas, Richmond, Jamia Mosque, and Minoru Chapel on Sunday.

The Discover Doors Open tour will take visitors to The Sharing Farm, Alexandra District Energy Utility, and BC Emergency Health Services Station 269 on Saturday, and LuLu Island Winery, Marion Webber Art, and Sea Island Heritage Society on Sunday.

Note that bus tours are available on a first-come, first-served basis, and registration is required.
