Fort Edmonton Park’s immersive outdoor escape game has new mysteries to uncover

10 June 20263 Mins Read

If you’re familiar with Fort Edmonton Park‘s Where Dark Things Dwell, its highly anticipated sequel has just arrived.

In more recent years, Fort Edmonton Park has started its outdoor escape experience, taking folks back in time and through a series of challenging puzzles. Teams of four will work together to solve puzzles, uncover clues, and complete challenges throughout the park’s 1885 Street, racing to break a mysterious curse before time runs out.

Are you up for the challenge? Get ready to put your thinking caps on, because When Shadows Lie is going to take a whole lot of brainpower.

What to expect

“Today, Fort Edmonton Park serves as a vibrant living history museum, bringing Edmonton’s past to life for guests exploring its historic streets. But within the shadowy streets of 1885, whispers still remain of an ancient curse that once gripped the town many years ago…” reads the website’s synopsis.

This game follows the events of the first game, Where Dark Things Dwell. When Shadows Lie tells the story of strange occurrences brewing in the village once again. You’ll be uncovering the mysteries around the street and seeing if you can defeat the curse once and for all. Although it is a direct sequel story-wise, there is no need to have played the prior game to understand anything going on in this new installment.

You might be thinking, “Is this based on a true story?” I can safely say, no, this is entirely fictitious and meant for entertainment purposes only. However, if you’re looking for something more real, you might be interested in the DARK experiences instead (available during the fall).

When Shadows Lie lasts 105 minutes total, with 90 whole minutes of game time, leaving additional time for instructions. Dates will differ, but game times will be at 6 p.m. and 8:30 p.m., respectively.

Individual tickets are $35 plus tax and GST. There are also groups of four tickets available for $140 plus tax and GST. Keep in mind when getting your tickets that you will be sorted into a team of four, as teams of more or fewer are discouraged due to the nature of the game.

Grab your friends on a spooky summer evening for this challenge, and see if you’re all able to defeat the curse. I wish you luck, folks.

When: Now until Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026
Time: 6 and 8:30 p.m.
Where: Fort Edmonton Park — 7000 143rd St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $35
