Wildfire near Lytton, B.C., which triggered evacuations is declared held

23 June 20261 Min Read

The British Columbia Wildfire Service says the Saw Creek blaze that triggered evacuations in and around the community of Lytton is now being held.

The status of the seven-square-kilometre blaze was downgraded Tuesday afternoon after a battle involving about 200 firefighters.

Tricia Thorpe, a director with the Thompson-Nicola Regional District, says the fire that was discovered last Friday has destroyed at least one home.

The fire service had said earlier that it expected Tuesday to be the hottest and driest day in the current forecast period, but the Saw Creek fire’s new status now means it’s not expected to grow beyond its current perimeter.

A handful of properties remain under evacuation order while hundreds of others are under evacuation alert.

The fire was discovered five years ago to the month that a different blaze destroyed most of Lytton and killed two people.

This report by The Canadian Press was first published June 23, 2026.
