With the hot summer weather comes the urge to do absolutely everything outside — including watching movies! Here in Toronto, there are plenty of ways to enjoy some alfresco entertainment. Many of the city’s outdoor movie nights are also totally free, making summer plans even easier! Here are 10 of our favourite places to catch a flick under the stars.
The Toronto Outdoor Picture Show (TOPS) is offering a full slate of outdoor movies throughout Toronto from June 26 to Aug. 23. The theme for this season is Going Places, and the full program includes events at Bell Manor Park, Corktown Common and Christie Pits.
The summer season will open with a three-night opening weekend of film screenings at Christie Pits, beginning with Nirvanna The Band The Show The Movie on Friday. Other highlights include One of Them Days on June 27, Arrival on July 5 and Titanic on Aug. 2.
The Italian Contemporary Film Festival is bringing the 2026 Lavazza IncluCity Festival back to the Distillery Historic District from June 25 to July 19.
Festival-goers will be treated to an innovative cinema village set up right on the cobblestone streets of one of the city’s most charming and unique areas.
Outdoor theatres and patios will line Distillery’s Trinity Street, and venues will also feature couch seating and large digital screens. In addition to a full lineup of “heartwarming films,” the festival will also offer installations, art exhibits, panel discussions, gourmet tastings and live performances. New this year is a very on-theme soccer series with Italian and international sports films.

Free Outdoor Movie Nights at Evergreen
Details will be kept under wraps until July, but it’s officially happening: free outdoor movie nights are back through the month of August at Evergreen Brick Works! Taking place every Thursday night that month at 7 p.m., the screenings are hosted at the Pavilion and no registration is required, though you’re encouraged to bring your own chairs and blankets.
Harbourfront’s Free Flicks
A movie and popcorn along the waterfront on a hot summer’s night? Say no more! Running from July 14–Sept. 1, Harbourfront Centre’s Free Flicks programming offers completely free movie nights on Tuesdays all summer right by the lake.
The lineup for this year includes some true fan favourites, including School of Rock, Moulin Rouge, Dirty Dancing and This Is Spinal Tap.
Movies Under the Stars
Head to Downsview Park this summer for a series of free outdoor movie nights — including one mystery movie! The lineup this year includes a screening of Bend it Like Beckham on July 15 at 9 p.m., Hoppers on July 27 at 9 p.m., and one final mystery movie on Aug. 19 at 8:30 p.m. Registration opens two weeks before each screening, and if you do snag a spot, make sure to arrive early to settle in somewhere with a great view of the screen.
College Park After Hours
College Park is running a full summer of after hours programming this year, so that you never have to go a weeknight without plans. There will be live concerts, activities, a bike clinic and of course, free outdoor movie nights. On July 1, catch Kicking and Screaming on the big screen. On Aug. 5, Moonrise Kingdom will play. And finally, on Sept. 2, just before school starts up again, watch Legally Blonde. All movie nights start at 7 p.m.
Downtown Movies in the Park
TIFF is making sure that the movie magic in Toronto continues all year long, not just in September: Downtown Movies in the Park returns to David Pecaut Square this summer with six weeks of free outdoor screenings under the stars. Highlights include Cool Runnings on July 1, A League of their Own on July 8 and Remember the Titans on July 29 (are we sensing a theme here?). Films begin after sundown at 9:30 p.m., but there will be special events and performances starting at 8:30 p.m.
Movies in the Park in Rosedale
Midtown is getting a free outdoor movie experience, too: Rosedale BIA is hosting Movies in the Park, featuring a lineup of four super fun screenings. On July 7, laugh out loud at Bridesmaids, and then get moody and nostalgic on July 14 with a screening of Twilight. July 21 offers a romantic twist with Dirty Dancing, and then enjoy a family-friendly hit with Ferris Bueller’s Day Off on July 28. Movies start at 8:30 p.m., but you’re encouraged to arrive early to grab a good spot (bring blankets!).
Under the Stars
Regent Park is back with an annual tradition since 2014: Under the Stars is an annual summer film series run by Regent Park Film Festival. Enjoy a night of free movies, food and performances in the heart of the neighbourhood right in Regent Park. Screenings this year are the emotional animated film The Tower on July 8, Indigenous drama Fancy Dance starring Lily Gladstone on July 15 and semi-autobiographical film My Father’s Shadow on July 22.
Game On East End: Outdoor Movie Night
Riverside has been running almost a full month of programming tied to the World Cup called Game On East End — and on July 10, that includes a free outdoor movie night! Voted on by fans, choose from a selection of soccer-themed, family-friendly films and then settle in for a movie under the stars at Riverside Park! The screening begins at 8 p.m. and limited chairs will be available, so it’s recommended you bring your own.
For those looking for an actual drive-in theatre complete with a snack bar and serious retro vibes, the 5 Drive-in Theatre in Oakville is open for the season with first-run movies.
The drive-in, which opened way back in 1964, is just west of Toronto and an easy cruise down the QEW. It has three screens and room for more than 1,000 cars.
