A free festival celebrating Métis culture is returning to Calgary this July

30 June 20263 Mins Read

The Calgary Métis Festival is returning to the Confluence for a full day of music, storytelling, food, and interactive cultural experiences. If Métis culture has ever been something you wanted to understand more deeply, not just from a distance, this event brings it all to life. Now entering its third year, the festival has grown into a space where people can learn, take part in, and experience Métis traditions in person.

Now let’s take a further look at what’s happening at the festival.

A full day of Métis music, culture and celebration

The Calgary Métis Festival is hosted by the Calgary Nose Hill and Calgary Elbow Métis Districts, who organize the event to share Métis culture, traditions, and community with the wider public. The goal is to create a space where people can learn, connect and experience Métis heritage through music, food and hands-on activities.

According to organizers, you can expect live Métis performances at the festival, including fiddlers, jiggers, and musicians playing both traditional and modern sounds. There will also be vendor booths set up throughout the space, featuring handmade cultural items highlighting Métis art and tradition.

For something a bit more immersive, guests can check out the authentic trapper’s tent experience, which offers a glimpse into Métis history and traditions. Throughout the day, there will also be Elder Talks that share stories, teachings, and lived experiences, providing deeper context for the culture and the festival’s celebrations.

And if you get hungry, there will be traditional Métis food available, including bannock, soups, and other classic comfort dishes that will help you refuel while you continue exploring everything happening across the festival grounds.

The festival will take place on Saturday, July 24, 2026, at The Confluence Historic Site, and it is completely free to attend. It runs from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m, giving you a full day to explore different activities,  catch a few performances, and experience the festival at your own pace.

Over the past three years, the festival has continued to grow as a welcoming space for everyone, whether you are Métis, a Calgarian, or just visiting during the summer. It’s a chance to experience something meaningful and take part in a celebration that feels deeply rooted in tradition.

When: Saturday, July 24, 2026
Time: 12 p.m. to 8 p.m.
Where: The Confluence Historic Site – 750 9th Ave. SE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Free and open to the public
