The calendar is about to flip to September, but Calgary is keeping the summer energy going with plenty happening around the city. The first week of the month brings outdoor movies, big-name concerts, Pride celebrations, and a few other events worth getting out for.
So whether you’re trying to squeeze in a few more summer nights before the autumn chill hits or you’re just ready to jump into some September plans, here are 10 of the best things happening in Calgary this week.
Rock legends Deep Purple are bringing their live show to Calgary, with the band taking over the Scotiabank Saddledome for an evening of classic rock. Best known for hits like “Smoke on the Water” and “Highway Star,” the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees are hitting the road for a night packed with decades of music.

Calgary Comedian Todd Ness is bringing his stand-up to The Laugh Shop, with a mix of storytelling, observational comedy and absurd humour. Ness has performed across Canada, including in front of 10,000 people at the Great Outdoors Comedy Festival in Halifax, and he’s also the host of the podcast Nessin Around.

Wrap up the summer with the final Music in the Plaza performance of the season at Heritage Park. The free evening will feature live music from HYMM Melodies in the park’s Plaza, giving you one last chance to catch the outdoor concert series before it wraps up for the year.

Grab a blanket and settle in for a screening of Zombieland at High Park, where the cult-favourite horror comedy will be shown outdoors as part of Beltline’s Movies With A View series. Starring Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Emma Stone and Abigail Breslin, the 2009 film follows four strangers who team up to survive in a world that has gone seriously sideways.

Calgary is getting a night of drag, political conversation and live entertainment for Pride season. The Politics with a Drag Queen event will feature discussions on politics and current issues, live drag performances, and fundraising for TransAction Alberta.

How to Train Your Dragon 2 is coming to the big screen with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra performing the film’s score live. Follow Hiccup and Toothless as they discover a mysterious ice cave and meet a surprising new dragon rider, all while the orchestra brings John Powell’s sweeping soundtrack to life.
When: Friday, Sept. 4, to Saturday, Sept. 5, 2026

Pride weekend is kicking off with the Apollo Western Cup Lawn Bowling Competition at the Inglewood Lawn Bowling Club, where you can hit the green for a tournament with drinks, food and a DJ. Once the competition wraps up, the party will continue over at High Light Tap Room.

Head over to The Confluence for the Deadly Alberta True Crime Tour, where some of the province’s most chilling stories take centre stage. The tour will explore real crimes from Alberta’s past, diving into the cases and characters behind them.

Spend the evening surrounded by candlelight at the Calgary Central Library for a live tribute to Taylor Swift. A string quartet will perform instrumental versions of Swift’s biggest hits in the library’s atmospheric setting.

Inglewood is getting into the Pride spirit with an evening of drag, live music, markets, and plenty happening around the neighbourhood. The celebration will bring people together along 9th Avenue SE, with local businesses and community spaces joining in on the fun.
