Sister Wives without Kody and Robyn Brown? That’s the reality fans face after TLC’s Season 21 trailer revealed their exit.
With Christine Brown Woolley, Janelle Brown, and Meri Brown now carrying the show, online forums are buzzing with one major question. Can the series hold onto its audience without its biggest source of drama?
The debate across Reddit isn’t about whether Meri, Janelle, and Christine deserve their happy endings; fans are thrilled for them. The real issue is whether happy endings actually make for good reality TV.
For 16 seasons, the show’s entire core storyline was the ongoing chaos between Kody, Robyn, and the rest of the family. Remove that, and viewers are left wondering if routine life updates and casual dating scenes are really enough to keep fans tuning in every week.

Fans were clearly outspoken about what Robyn and Kody actually brought to the series over the past several years, and how Sister Wives will change now that they’re gone. One fan wrote, “It was boring when Robyn watched Kody cut down more trees; they rode those stupid four-wheelers, and his apologies. All that was a snooze fest.”
“I agree and disagree. [This season] has the potential to be more interesting than recent seasons if they’re very frank about issues they’ve previously glossed over (the money, the mistreatment of the children, etc.). But we know they won’t, so yeah, it’ll be boring. To be fair, the recent seasons with Kody and Robyn were also extremely boring,” deduced a second viewer.
A third Redditor shared their hopes for the season. “I hope the fact that K&R are off the show means the OG 3 can and will spill more about the issues within the family. I would prefer they not speak of the children, but if they’re going to give us the real tea on money issues, specifically Coyote Pass, then I am here for it.”
“Absolutely! Kody had control for most of the seasons, because all of the wives would follow whatever he wanted. Now that none of the OG3 have ties to him, he can’t threaten to withhold money or affection from them, so they don’t care anymore. I HOPE they spill a bunch of tea,” penned a fourth viewer.
The official TLC press release states, “This season follows each woman as she embraces life on her own terms. Janelle steps back into the dating world and explores a promising new relationship, opening herself up to the possibility of finding love again. Meri continues her search for companionship while exploring new experiences and gaining confidence in what she wants from her future. Meanwhile, Christine settles into married life with David, balancing her new world while continuing to discover new sides of their relationship.”
It continues, “While their journeys are separate, the women remain connected through their shared history. Throughout the season, Christine, Janelle, and Meri come together for gatherings and difficult conversations. Old wounds and unresolved feelings don’t disappear overnight, and their relationships continue to evolve as they navigate what moving forward means for each of them.”
The statement concludes, “The season also brings emotional milestones. The Browns return to Flagstaff to honor Garrison’s memory at a memorial held at an animal shelter, creating a space for reflection, remembrance, and healing. Later, a long-discussed mini family reunion finally becomes a reality, bringing family members together and highlighting both the enduring bonds and ongoing complexities that continue to shape the Brown family.”
