ABTA’s Travel Convention will head to Montenegro in 2027, giving UK travel industry leaders the opportunity to experience one of Europe’s most exciting emerging destinations.
The announcement was made today in Funchal, Madeira, at the close of ABTA’s 2026 Travel Convention.
Set on the shores of the Bay of Kotor, the Convention will take place at the five-star Hyatt Regency Kotor Bay Resort from 4-6 October 2027.
Delegates will enjoy exclusive use of the hotel, which sits within one of Montenegro’s most striking natural landscapes. Often described as one of the most beautiful bays in Europe, the Bay of Kotor is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, renowned for its dramatic mountain scenery, medieval towns and Adriatic coastline. Nearby attractions include the walled Old Town of Kotor, the elegant marina of Porto Montenegro, historic waterside settlements, and a wealth of outdoor experiences both on land and at sea.
Beyond the Bay of Kotor, Montenegro offers a diversity of experiences within a compact destination. Within its small borders, visitors can discover soaring mountains, dramatic canyons, vast lakes and wetlands, and a beautiful coastline with a variety of beaches and secluded coves. The country is home to five national parks, offering opportunities for outdoor adventures and nature-based experiences.
Combined with its historic towns, rich cultural heritage, authentic local experiences and excellent gastronomy, Montenegro allows travellers to combine the coast, mountains, nature and culture in a single trip. Strong air connectivity with the UK, including direct flights to Tivat and Podgorica, makes the destination easily accessible to British travellers.
Delegates will fly into nearby Tivat International Airport, located 13km from the hotel.
The Convention will be hosted by the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro.
Mark Tanzer, Chief Executive of ABTA, said:
“We’re excited to be taking ABTA’s Travel Convention in 2027 to Montenegro for the first time. The Bay of Kotor is one of Europe’s most striking destinations, combining outstanding natural beauty with fascinating history, culture and hospitality.
“Montenegro is becoming increasingly popular with UK holidaymakers and Kotor Bay will provide a stunning backdrop for our flagship event. We look forward to working closely with our hosts to deliver an exceptional Convention, whilst giving delegates the opportunity to experience fist-hand everything this remarkable destination has to offer.”
PhD Ana Tripković Marković, Director of the National Tourism Organisation of Montenegro, said:
“ We are delighted that Montenegro has been selected to host ABTA’s Travel Convention in 2027. This prestigious event represents a significant opportunity to deepen our cooperation with the British travel industry and further strengthen the ties between our two markets. The United Kingdom is one of Montenegro’s key strategic source markets, with tourist arrivals and overnight stays demonstrating sustained growth in recent years, supported by enhanced air connectivity. We are confident that hosting the Convention will provide an exceptional platform to showcase the richness and diversity of Montenegro’s tourism offering to leading representatives of the British travel industry, foster new partnerships, and further reinforce Montenegro’s position as an attractive and competitive destination in this important market.“
Industry colleagues are encouraged to save the date for 4-6 October 2027, with registration details set to be announced in due course.
