You can grab Halloween treats and enjoy a spooky skate at this Calgary rink

15 October 20263 Mins Read

Calgary’s Olympic Oval is hosting a Halloween-themed public skate this month, so if you’ve been waiting for an excuse to wear your costume, this could be the perfect opportunity. Frozen Frights: Halloween on Ice will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24 at the University of Calgary, with sweet treats and family fun planned throughout the afternoon.

Now, let’s take a closer look at what’s planned for the event.

What to expect at Frozen Frights: Halloween on Ice

What can I do during the event?

During Frozen Frights, you can join the public skating and enjoy the Olympic Oval’s massive speed-skating rink. Halloween candy will also be given to the little ones, so they can get a head start on trick-or-treating before Halloween weekend. And of course, no Halloween event is complete without costumes. The University of Calgary recommends dressing up, so feel free to get creative with your costume.

When is the event happening?

The event will take place on Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026, from noon until 5 p.m., and you’re more than welcome to stop by for as long as you’d like during that timeframe.

Where is Frozen Frights taking place?

Frozen Frights will take place at the Olympic Oval at the University of Calgary. According to the University of Calgary, the facility is home to a 400-metre speed skating track that is connected to the 1988 Winter Olympics, but it’s also open to the public for recreational skating throughout the year.

The Oval typically offers over 50 public skating sessions each month, so if you can make it to Frozen Frights, there are plenty of other events to catch later in the month.

How much does it cost?

Admission is $7.25 for adults and $5 for youth and seniors, payable at the door.

If you want to rent gear, skate rentals are available for $7.65 and include a helmet. If you just need the helmet, you can rent one separately for $2.50.

What else should I know before I go?

If you plan to skate in costume, keep a few rules in mind before you hit the ice. According to the University of Calgary, costumes can’t include loose pieces, sharp accessories, or anything that could get caught on the ice or pose a safety risk to other skaters.

Helmets are also mandatory for all skaters, so bring one with you; if you don’t have one, rentals are available.

Happy skating, Calgary!

When: Saturday, Oct. 24, 2026
Time: Noon to 5 p.m.
Where: Olympic Oval — 288 Collegiate Blvd. NW, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: Adults: $7.25, Youth/Senior: $5
