Have you always liked the idea of a sleeper train, but found the reality of sharing a cabin far less appealing? Well, we’ve got some great news for you.
In 2025, reported on a brand-new Berlin-based start up called Nox Mobility, which aimed to connect 100 European cities with train services offering a genuinely viable alternative to short-haul flights.
Now, the company has officially announced its first-ever service: a business-class style sleeper train between Hamburg and Munich (which, according to the Independent, is one of the most frequently flown domestic flight paths in Germany).
The inaugural journey is slated to take place on March 23, 2027, and the service will run in each direction three times per week, with stops at Bremen and Augsburg along the route.
From Munich, trains will depart on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 9.20pm, arriving in Hamburg at 8.27am the following morning. In the other direction, trains will depart Hamburg on Sundays, Tuesdays and Thursdays at 9.22pm, arriving in Bavaria’s capital at the marginally earlier time of 8.14am.
Trains are set to feature ‘Nox Suites’, which the operator has dubbed a ‘workspace by day, a lounge to unwind by night’.
What that actually means is an entire train of private compartments, mirroring a business class aeroplane cabin. You’ll have access to a large seat, a table for dining or working, luggage space and power sockets.
AFAR explains that the rooms feature sliding doors for privacy, and that children under the age of four are allowed to travel for free with an adult passenger.
There’s also no restaurant carriage – instead, much like on an aeroplane, you can pre-order meals to be served in your cabin.
Fares for this service start at €65 for a single ticket, and they’re already available to book. Nox Mobility has said that the goal is to replace travellers’ need for short-haul flights and hotels by combining them. When you look at it that way, it’s pretty good value.
Here’s a map detailing the planned routes.
The company’s aim is to serve 100 European cities by 2035, but for now, if you’re after more information on tickets for the Hamburg to Munich service, head straight to Nox Mobility’s official website.
