Toronto police say a father and his two adult daughters were shot during a violent home invasion shooting inside a home in the affluent Bridle Path neighbourhood.
Police say they received reports of three people who were shot inside a residence near Bayview Avenue and Lawrence Avenue East at around 3:44 a.m.
Police say two parents and two adult children were transported to the hospital. Two of the family members suffered life-altering injuries and two have non-life-threatening injuries.
Two of the victims remain in hospital.
Insp. Kristy Smith from Toronto Police Service says the masked suspects were armed with guns and a hammer and forced their way into the home through the rear door.
They demanded valuables from the family, but Smith said it was not clear if any belongings were stolen.
A struggle ensued and the suspects shot their weapons multiple times.
One victim was struck with a hammer, Smith said.
Investigators say three suspects fled in an SUV. No descriptions of the suspects were provided.
“We recognize how frightening and disturbing an incident like this is,” Smith said. “People should be able to feel safe in their homes.”
Police say there will be an increased police presence in the neighbourhood.
Police say this is an ongoing investigation.
They are asking anyone with more information or dash cam footage to contact the police.
