Quentin Tarantino’s First New Movie in 7 Years Officially Arrives in Theaters Next Month

1 November 20265 Mins Read

Quentin Tarantino fans have spent the better part of seven years waiting to see what one of the best filmmakers in the industry might do next. Since the Oscar-winning Once Upon a Time in Hollywood hit theaters in 2019, Tarantino has kept himself busy with books, interviews, and plans for what he once described as his final film. That milestone was initially meant to arrive in 2024 with The Movie Critic, but Quentin Tarantino famously shelved the script before production could begin, leaving fans in the dark about what could come next. But that’s about to change next month.

Arriving in theaters in November, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will finally give fans their answer by bringing back one of Tarantino’s most memorable characters. Brad Pitt reprises his role as the laid-back stuntman from Tarantino’s 2019 film, stepping back into the boots of Cliff Booth for a brand-new chapter set almost a decade after his original run. Although Tarantino penned the script, he’s not actually the one holding the camera this time. Instead, David Fincher (Seven, Fight Club) is taking the reins, which makes the project all the more intriguing given the acclaimed director’s knack for gritty crime dramas and the darker side of Los Angeles.

Announced seemingly on a whim, the upcoming film revisits Tarantino’s alternate-history version of Hollywood to explore a very different vision of the entertainment industry. With only a month left before its debut, here’s everything you need to know about The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth before it lands in theaters and Netflix later this year.

What is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth about?

Set in 1977, eight years after the events of Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth follows the former stuntman as he tackles a very different role in the entertainment industry. Now a Hollywood fixer, Cliff uses his particular set of skills to resolve problems for powerful people, including those who aren’t exactly interested in following the law. When he’s not working as a bartender or projectionist, he’s helping keep the industry’s messier secrets from spilling into public view.

The narrative kicks off when Cliff receives an urgent call from talent agent Karen Crosby (Elizabeth Debicki), who enlists his help on behalf of her client, television star Charlie Peters (Scott Caan). Known for doing his own stunts, Charlie navigates a delicate Hollywood ecosystem shared with his wife, Toni (Carla Gugino), and ex-pro-footballer star Roderick “Hot Rod” Harrison (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II). Meanwhile, the Verdusco brothers, a pair of gangsters played by Matt Groove and JB Tadena, bring their own brand of trouble to the proceedings.

Although the film builds on Tarantino’s fictionalized version of Hollywood, promotional material seems to suggest the vibe is shifting away from the fairy-tale atmosphere of its predecessor in favor of a crime story steeped in the violent and eccentric characters of 1970s Los Angeles. Pitt returns in the role that earned him the Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor, while Timothy Olyphant also reprises his role as actor James Stacy, who was last seen riding off in a motorcycle in Once Upon a Time in Hollywood — a reference to the real-world actor’s 1973 accident that left him without an arm and a leg.

Fincher’s involvement gives the project a different identity, even as Tarantino’s screenplay keeps it connected to the world audiences first fell in love with in 2019. Renowned for his dark vision on crime film masterpieces like Seven, Gone Girl, and The Killer, Fincher offers an element of seriousness and maturity that contrasts sharply with Quentin Tarantino’s reverent, comedic pulp. Where Tarantino celebrates cinema with hyper-stylized energy, Fincher dissects his worlds with cold, psychological precision. It’ll be interesting to see how those two visions synergize and what kind of wacky criminal escapades are born from it.

When is The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth’s release date?

The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth will officially land on Netflix starting Dec. 23, 2026, but before its streaming debut, the film will receive an exclusive two-week IMAX theatrical run starting Nov. 25. It’s a way of giving audiences an opportunity to see the follow-up on the big screen during the Thanksgiving holiday.

The release marks Tarantino’s first new feature screenplay to reach audiences since Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, although Fincher is directing it. That’s a notable development given Tarantino’s decision to abandon The Movie Critic, which had been expected to serve as his tenth and final directorial feature. Rather than directing the Cliff Booth follow-up himself, Tarantino passed the project to Fincher after Pitt suggested the filmmaker as a potential choice, saving his landmark feature for an original story he’s still working on.

For Netflix, The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth is another major addition to its 2026 movie lineup, uniting two acclaimed filmmakers and one of Pitt’s most beloved characters. And for Tarantino fans, it’s a chance to revisit a world that has been largely dormant on screen since 2019, even if the man who created it is taking a step back from the director’s chair.
