It’s that time again, folks, when the shiny new list of the planet’s 50 most impressive, innovative and stylish restaurants is unveiled by The 50 (formerly World’s 50 Best).
For 2026, the top 10 includes a ‘food-led operatic performance’ in Bangkok, a 50-course menu in Copenhagen and a ‘farm-to-fork’ spot in Mexico City.
But the coveted number one spot went to Asador Etxebarri, a grill restaurant in the rural area of Atxondo in Spain’s Basque Country. Menu items include seasonal delicacies like sea cucumber with green beans and baby eels, as well as staples like homemade chorizo.

‘Everything on the menu has been kissed by fire, whether it’s the flavour-packed Palamos prawns, the fresh mozzarella or the milk ice cream with beetroot that rounds out every feast,’ says The 50’s editorial team. ‘All to be enjoyed in the staunchly unpretentious dining room.’
And enjoy you should, as a tasting menu here starts at $324. The win comes after the restaurant was crowned second-best in the world in both 2024 and 2025.
As for the rest of the top 10, you can browse all those below. Oh, and take a look at the extended list of the 51-100 best restaurants on the planet this year.
