Tokyo Tops 2027 Travel Searches According to eDreams Report

Domestic Cities Dominate 2026 Bookings

Las Vegas was the most-booked destination among American travelers in 2026, based on eDreams ODIGEO’s annual travel report, which draws on the company’s search and booking data.

Orlando ranked second, followed by Fort Lauderdale. Atlanta, Dallas, Denver, Los Angeles, New York City, Chicago and Miami completed the 10 most-booked destinations. Houston, San Juan and Newark also attracted significant booking activity.

Domestic destinations and U.S. territories accounted for most of the leading destinations. Mexico City was the highest-ranked destination outside the United States and its territories, followed by Guadalajara.

Search activity presented a more international picture. New York City was the most-searched destination in 2026, ahead of Orlando and Fort Lauderdale. Tokyo ranked sixth, while London was eighth. Paris also appeared among the 20 most-searched destinations.

San Francisco and Mexico City Record Strong Growth

San Francisco registered the largest annual increase in bookings by American travelers, rising 87% from 2025. Mexico City followed with growth of 76%.

Bookings for Minneapolis-St. Paul increased 61%, while Washington rose 49% and Denver gained 37%.

Short Trips Account for Most Reservations

Trips lasting three or four days represented 44% of bookings, making them the most common trip length in 2026. Two-day trips accounted for another 15%.

Trips of seven to 13 days made up 17% of bookings, while 8% lasted at least two weeks. About 68% of hotel stays lasted one or two nights.

European Cities Lead Hotel Demand

Madrid was the most-booked hotel destination among American travelers in 2026, followed by Barcelona, Rome and Paris. Battery Park City in New York, Orlando, Miami, London and Milan also appeared among the 10 leading hotel destinations.

Punta Cana recorded the fastest hotel booking growth, increasing 85% from the previous year. Buenos Aires rose 45%, San Francisco increased 43%, Venice’s Giudecca area gained 41%, and Madrid was up 32%.

European Travelers Lead U.S.-Bound Bookings

Travelers from France accounted for 18% of U.S.-bound bookings made through eDreams ODIGEO, the largest share among international source markets. Spain represented 14%, followed by Germany at 10%, Italy at 7% and Mexico at 6%.

New York City was the most popular U.S. destination among these international travelers. Miami ranked second, followed by Los Angeles, Las Vegas and Orlando.

Social Media and Solo Travel Shape Decisions

Among solo travelers globally, 38% identified freedom as their main reason for traveling alone. The unavailability of friends or relatives was cited by 30%, while 27% selected self-discovery.

Among U.S. respondents, 43% said they would travel alone for mental clarity. Globally, 43% of solo travelers considered four to seven days the ideal trip length, and 60% preferred to fly.

Social media also affected destination choices. About 39% of travelers had been inspired by social platforms to visit a new place. That figure reached 49% among Americans, compared with 48% in Spain, 44% in Italy and 25% in the United Kingdom. Less-visited locations were the most commonly cited source of social media inspiration.

Music and Sports Events Drive Search Spikes

After tickets for Celine Dion performances went on sale, searches for Paris rose 52% year over year.

During Shakira’s Madrid residency, searches from France rose 486%, and searches from Germany increased 463%. Searches from Germany for London increased 966% around Bruno Mars concert dates.

After Arsenal reached the Champions League final, U.K. searches for Budapest rose 99% from the previous week. Searches between the U.K. and Miami increased 321% ahead of England’s World Cup quarterfinal.

Tokyo Leads Early Searches for 2027

Tokyo ranked first in early searches by American travelers for 2027, followed by London, Paris, Orlando and Cancun.

Rome, Honolulu, New York City, Bangkok and Fort Lauderdale completed the top 10. San Juan, Manila, Ho Chi Minh City, Los Angeles and Seoul also ranked among the 15 most-searched destinations.
