A dreamy weekend of folk music is soon taking over this Alberta mountain town

9 September 20264 Mins Read

Jasper is getting one last big dose of summer fun before the season winds down, with the Jasper Folk Music Festival returning this weekend.

The two-day festival will feature an all-Canadian lineup spanning roots, blues, indie, country and rock, with the Rockies setting the scene for a pretty memorable weekend.

So, what can you actually expect when you get to the festival? Let’s take a look.

What to expect at the Jasper Folk Music Festival

What is the Jasper Folk Music Festival?

According to organizers, the Jasper Folk Music Festival is an annual event organized by the Jasper Folk Music Society. It was created to showcase Canadian musicians while giving locals and visitors a reason to gather and enjoy live music together.

What can I do at the festival on Friday?

On Friday, Sept. 11, the festival will get started at 4 p.m., with an evening lineup featuring:

  • Allison Russell
  • The Harpoonist & The Axe Murderer
  • MIINA
  • Wyatt C. Louis
  • Mama’s Broke
  • Leeroy Stagger with his band
  • Sweet Alibi

What can I do at the festival on Saturday?

Gates will open at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, giving you a full day to settle in and enjoy some tunes. Saturday’s performers include:

  • Moontricks
  • BrassTactics
  • Captain Thunderpants
  • The Ducks
  • Warrior Women
  • Northbound Train
  • Greetings

What else can I do besides listen to music?

The festival also offers fun programming beyond the main performances, including Captain Thunderpants, a family-friendly act that gets kids singing and dancing.

Food vendors will be set up around the festival, so you don’t have to worry about going hungry. You will also find artisan vendors selling goodies if you want to do a little shopping between sets.

There will also be a Beer Garden, and alcohol purchased on site can be enjoyed throughout the grounds.

How much are tickets?

There are a few different ticket options depending on how much of the festival you want to attend. A full-weekend adult pass is $120 plus fees, while a Friday evening pass is $79.34 and a Saturday all-day pass is $116.09.

Reduced-price tickets are also available for youth ages 13 to 17 and seniors ages 65 and older. A youth or senior weekend pass is $100.34, while the Friday evening option is $53.09 and the Saturday all-day pass is $79.34.

Children 12 and under can attend for free, but they still need a wristband and must be accompanied by a ticketed adult.

Where do I get my festival wristband?

You’ll receive your festival wristband when you enter through the main gate, which is located near the Jasper Royal Canadian Legion. Weekend and daily attendees receive different wristbands, and you must wear them at all times while you’re on the grounds.

What should I bring to the festival?

Since the festival takes place outdoors in the mountains, dress in layers, and be prepared for changing weather. Comfortable shoes are also recommended, since you’ll be on your feet throughout the day.

You’re also more than welcome to bring your own chair, as long as it is no more than 26 inches tall overall, with a maximum leg height of 8 inches.

If you don’t want to carry a chair around, picnic tables and bleachers are scattered throughout the festival grounds.

Is the festival pet-friendly?

Unfortunately, animals are not permitted on the festival grounds, so your four-legged buddy will have to sit this one out.

Where is the festival taking place?

The festival is located at Commemoration Park, and parking will be available in the large Activity Centre parking lot.

The festival also notes a daily bus service in Jasper, while taxis, bikes, and walking are other options for getting to the event.

When: Friday, Sept. 11 to Saturday, Sept. 12, 2026
Time: Friday: Gates open at 4 p.m.; Saturday: Gates open at 10:30 a.m.
Where: Commemoration Park – 1234 Pyramid Lake Rd., Jasper, Alta.
Cost: Starting at $53.09
