A medieval festival with live battles is taking over Calgary for one day only

18 June 20263 Mins Read

Medieval and Geek Fest is bringing a full day of live combat, cultural experiences, and interactive entertainment to the city. At the event, you can expect armoured battles, dance lessons, and a bustling cultural market, along with live demonstrations that bring the medieval theme to life.

The event blends history and fun in a way that’s immersive and family-friendly, making it a great excuse to step out of your usual weekend plans. So, if you’re a history buff, a fantasy fan, or simply looking for something unique to check out, there will be plenty to explore throughout the day.

Let’s take a look at everything happening during the one-day festival.

A full day of battles, markets, and hands-on fun

According to the Austrian Canadian Club, one of the biggest draws to the festival is the live medieval combat demonstrations, where attendees can watch armoured fighters bring historical battle techniques to life. And beyond that, throughout the day, you can visit the cultural market featuring themed vendors, crafts and specialty goods inspired by medieval and European traditions.

The event is designed to be interactive for all ages, with a dedicated kids’ zone, full-on themed games, and creative stations where younger visitors can move through different areas designed to keep them engaged throughout the day.

And if you get a little hungry during the festival, no worries, there will be plenty of food and beverage options available on site throughout the day. A bar and concession service will be running, featuring Danish and Austrian favourites alongside snacks, beer, and plenty of grab-and-go options.

Medieval and Geek Fest also serves a greater purpose, helping raise funds for MCC Team Canada as they prepare for the World Championships in Denmark.

The festival will be hosted at the Austrian Canadian Cultural Centre on Saturday, June 20, 2026, and entry is $5, payable at the door with cash or card, so you don’t have to worry about purchasing anything online ahead of time.

So if you’re bored with the same weekend plans, this is your sign to head over to the Medieval and Geek Fest and feel like you’ve stepped back in time for a day.

When: Saturday, June 20, 2026
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: 3112 11th St. NE, Calgary, Alta.
Cost: $5 entry fee
