Adam Kai-Ji Lo, accused in Vancouver’s Lapu Lapu Day attack, pleads not guilty

2 November 20262 Mins Read

The man accused of killing 11 people in a vehicle-ramming attack at the Lapu Lapu Day festival in Vancouver has pleaded not guilty to all 42 charges he faces.

Damienne Darby, communications council with the BC Prosecution Service, said Adam Kai-Ji Lo pleaded not guilty on Monday to 11 counts of second-degree murder and 31 counts of attempted murder in the attack in April 2025.

She said Lo entered the pleas in a court appearance by video conference.

Lo elected against facing a jury in favour of a judge-only trial set to start in B.C. Supreme Court on April 19, 2027, and due to run until the end of next August.

He is accused of driving an SUV through a crowd at the street festival hosted by Vancouver’s Filipino community, killing 11 and injuring dozens.

The attack has prompted recommendations and changes aimed at improving public safety at festivals and community events around the province.

Lo’s case was moved to B.C. Supreme Court earlier this year after previously being handled in provincial court, where a judge ruled he was fit to stand trial after hearing from two forensic psychiatrists.

The proceedings are subject to publication bans.
