Alberta is getting a holiday market with over 200 vendors and its own tree-lighting ceremony

31 October 20264 Mins Read

The Banff Christmas Market is coming back yet again, bringing even more of the holiday spirit into this Alberta town. This year, the market will be returning with more magic than ever, including a new light show, extended hours, and more!

There’s no better way to celebrate the winter and holiday season than by visiting the annual Banff Christmas Market. According to its website, this event blends timeless tradition and local culture with this seasonal celebration inspired by the charm of European markets. Over four weekends, visitors are invited to check out the many vendors, workshops, and festivities all commemorating the occasion.

What to expect at the Banff Christmas Market

You’ll be able to catch this Christmas market in Banff almost every Thursday to Sunday from Thursday, Nov. 19, until Sunday, Dec. 13. This comes with the exception of Thursday, Nov. 26, when the market will be closed for the day.

When it’s open, the market consists of over 200 vendors from in and around the area, all of which you can check out on the event’s website. You’ll be able to find things including jewelry, pottery, candles, wellness products, apparel, locally distilled spirits, and more.

Over the weekends, there will also be ugly sweater contests, live performances, visits from Santa, and so many more family-friendly activities.

In addition to the festivities included with admission, there are three paid workshops visitors can take part in:

What’s new this year at the market?

According to the market, this year will be “bigger, brighter and more magical than ever,” as this year brings new festive experiences, longer hours, and even more ways to enjoy the event.

These new additions include:

  • A new musical light show every Friday, Saturday, and Sunday at dusk
  • All hot drinks will now be served in their Holiday Collection Ceramic Mug
  • Two new experiences aimed toward children

How much are admission tickets?

For those interested in visiting, admission tickets are available in several forms: single-day admission, multi-day passes, and family packages and savings. Most days require a pre-booked time slot that comes with your ticket purchased online; however, tickets may be available at the door on Community Thursdays (Dec. 3 and Dec. 10).

Single-day admission tickets vary depending on the day, ranging from admission by donation to $16.50 before tax for adults. You’ll be able to find all the exact ticketing prices on the market’s website.

Multi-day weekend passes are also available, giving guests unlimited entries all weekend long, no timeslot required. These passes (before taxes and fees) are:

  • $39.95 for adults (ages 11 to 64)
  • $32.95 for seniors (ages 65 and up)
  • $7 for youth (ages three to 10)
  • Free for children ages two and under

Families consisting of two adults and two youth are able to snag a Family Friday Package for $30 plus taxes and fees on Fridays only.

With shopping opportunities, festive fun, and a whole load of holiday spirit, it’s always a vibrant celebration. If you find yourself in the Rockies this winter, the Banff Christmas Market is one stop you’ll definitely want to make.
