Fire Exit Theatre is seeking actors for their March 2026 production of Sequence by Arun Lakra and directed by Chris Stockton.
SYNOPSIS:
Is luck a matter of science or belief? A man successfully bets double-or-nothing on the Super Bowl coin toss 20 years in a row while a professor races the clock to cure the disease causing her own progressive blindness. Two fascinating stories intertwine like DNA to examine the interplay between science and faith, probability and luck. Belief systems clash, ideas mutate, and systems springs from chaos. With razor sharp wit, ‘Sequence’ asks: in our lives, our universe, and even in our stories, does order matter?
SCHEDULE: Beginning in January we will do evening/weekend rehearsals based on availability of the team. Tech rehearsals are March 7th-9th with performances running from March 10th-14th at Engineered Air Theatre, Werklund Centre.
HOW TO PREPARE: Sides will be sent.
HOW TO SIGN UP: Auditions will take place at Renfrew Baptist Church on Nov 2nd (with callbacks on the 5th if necessary)
Please schedule an audition time by emailing Val Lieske at val@fireexit.ca .
We will be auditioning for the following roles:
Dr. Guzman (F 50s): Dr. Guzman is a highly intelligent scientist who believes in the explanatory power of genetics, probability, and scientific inquiry. She is an advocate for stem-cell research and approaches questions about luck through logic and experimentation. She is blind, but her blindness does not define her professional authority or intellectual capabilities.
Theo (M 50s): Theo is a charismatic, witty, self-assured man famous for being extraordinarily lucky. A successful author who has built a public identity around his seemingly impossible winning streak, he enjoys attention, wealth, and the advantages his reputation brings him. Beneath his humour and swagger, however, lies a more vulnerable man who questions his own luck and the meaning of his life.
Mr. Adamson (M 20’s): Mr. Adamson is a man who uses a wheelchair following a spinal-cord injury. He believes that God has a purpose for events in his life, including his disability, and interprets chance through his religious faith. He encounters Dr. Guzman in a scientific setting, where his beliefs are challenged by her insistence on genetics and rational explanation.
Cynthia (F 20s): Cynthia is intelligent, sharp-tongued, inquisitive, and deeply sceptical of Theo’s claims. She challenges his explanations of luck and refuses to accept easy answers. Her interest in Theo is more personal and urgent than it initially appears.
Fire Exit Theatre is a non-equity semi-professional theatre company. Actor honorariums are paid. Equity performers will be considered.
