Staged Theatre Productions is searching for actors for the play Gnomon’s Land to be presented at the 2026 Edmonton Fringe Festival.
SYNOPSIS:
Written by Grace Fitzgerald and Thomas Moore, Gnomon’s Land is an absurdist physical theatre/clown show. The show follows four clowns representing the 15 minute increments on the clock as they search for meaning, morality, and place in a world dictated by time.
CHARACTERS:
00: 00 is light on her feet, playful and craves attention. She’s growing up but doesn’t want to believe it. She is characterized by her refusal to lose her innocence.
15: 15 is anxious, eager, and always shown tripping over himself in his much too big suit. He chases time relentlessly, he just wants the suit to fit. He craves time, he wants it to just speed past.
30: 30 is steadfast, caring, and is stuck in the middle. She cannot go forward or back, she is stuck. She doesn’t fear time, she hates it. She craves change and is frustrated by time’s monotony.
45: 45 is timid and alert. He is petrified of time, it goes far too fast and he just wants it to pause and give him time to catch up.
Note: Roles will be cast regardless of gender, with the playwrights being willing to make appropriate changes to reflect this.
REHEARSALS AND PERFORMANCES:
The rehearsal schedule will be created after casting based on the availability of the team. There will be one week of workshopping (2-4 rehearsals) in May, and then rehearsals will officially begin in June, with there being 2-3 rehearsals weekly until the Edmonton Fringe Festival in August.
The festival will run from August 13-23, with 8 shows throughout its duration.
Following the festival, the entire team will be compensated using a profit share model.
AUDITIONS:
Auditions will occur on April 28th from 5:30-7:30 and April 30th from 5:30-7:30 in groups. Please follow this link to sign up for an audition and to provide further information: https://forms.gle/He64dmmz3dE3ZUHP9 . Auditions will occur on Google Meet, with a link found by following the aforementioned google form.
Auditions will occur in pairs, with a reading from a side and a potential for redirects. If no one else signs up in your timeslot we will provide someone to read with you. It is recommended to wear clothes you are comfortable moving in and be in a space where you can do so, as redirects may be physical or movement based. It is not necessary to prepare anything else for the audition.
Following this, participants may be asked to attend a callback.
Additionally, if neither of these dates work for you but you’re interested in auditioning, please reach out and we can try to find a day that works for you, or coordinate a video submission if needed. Don’t hesitate to contact us to let us know how we can best accommodate you!
Staged Theatre Productions is committed to equitable casting. If there are any barriers that may prevent you from being able to audition, please reach out to Grace Fitzgerald (stagedtheatre@gmail.com) to see how we can help you out.
