Frontmezzjunkies reports: The festival honours its standout productions as several award winners prepare for Best of Fringe at TO Live
By Ross
After spending days immersed in the wonderfully unpredictable world of the Toronto Fringe Festival, I found myself leaving with a notebook full of reviews, a growing list of artists I want to follow, and one lingering thought: I wish I had time to see even more. Every theatre seemed to offer a completely different experience, from intimate dramas and inventive solo performances to outrageous comedies and daring theatrical experiments. That sense of discovery is why I keep coming back to the Fringe year after year.
Now comes one of my favourite traditions. Toronto Fringe has announced the recipients of its 2026 Festival Awards, celebrating the artists and productions that made this year’s festival so memorable. Many of the award winners will return as part of Best of Fringe at TO Live, running July 17 through 19 at the Jane Mallett Theatre. After catching only nine productions during my own Fringe adventure, I’m already hoping to make it back to see a few of these celebrated shows, including several that I simply couldn’t fit into my schedule.
Among this year’s major honours, CAMP! by Mixtape Projects, DADS by Found Objects Theatre, God Save the Sodomites by Perchance Productions, Pedro the Penguin by Participatory Players, and You Choose: An Improvised Murder Mystery by The Howland Company were all selected for Best of Fringe presented by TO Live. Several productions also received multiple awards, including 1920’s Walking Around in a Dream, CAMP!, Pedro the Penguin, and You Choose: An Improvised Murder Mystery, highlighting the remarkable range of work showcased throughout this year’s festival.

The 2026 Toronto Fringe Festival has once again proven that some of the most exciting theatre in the city is created by artists willing to take a chance on a new idea. Congratulations to all of this year’s recipients. I have a feeling a few of these productions will continue their journeys well beyond the Fringe, and I can’t wait to see what comes next.
