Bonbons sold in 40 states recalled over undeclared walnuts

A popular gourmet chocolate product sold across the United States is being recalled after a labeling error failed to disclose the presence of walnuts, according to the Food & Drug Administration (FDA). 

The recall involves French Broad Chocolates PBC’s Bette’s Bake Sale Bonbon Collection, which was distributed in 6, 12, and 24-piece boxes. The FDA says the products may contain undeclared walnuts, a major allergen that can trigger severe or even life-threatening reactions in some people.

What we know:

The affected bonbons were sold between April 14 and April 20, 2026, in both retail stores in Asheville, North Carolina and online to customers in more than 40 states. The recall applies to specific batches labeled 260414 and 260417, with best-by dates ranging from late June 2026. 

The bonbons were packaged in paper boxes and sold in French Broad Chocolates retail stores located in Asheville, North Carolina and on their website in the following states: AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DC, DE, FL, GA, HI, IA, IL, IN, KY, LA, MA, MD, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, NE, NH, NJ, NY, OH, OK, OR, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WA, WI & WV.

According to French Broad Chocolates, they were notified by a team member of a labeling mix-up in the product’s tasting guide. The Walnut Fudge bonbon, which contains walnuts, was incorrectly identified, and its description was swapped with another flavor.

What consumers should do

What’s next:

Customers who purchased the affected bonbon collections are asked not to consume them if they have a tree nut allergy. Instead, they should discard it immediately or return the product to the place where they purchased it for a full refund.
