Overview
This experiential program offers young Indigenous people a vibrant, culturally grounded space to explore leadership, strengthen skills, and build confidence. Grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being, participants learn through shared experiences in community leadership, professional development and systems navigation, and wellness. Land-based learning, ceremony, creative practice, hands-on skill building, and reflection are woven throughout, supporting practical tools and leadership capacity that can be carried forward. The program weaves together strong foundations, core skill development, and opportunities to apply learning in ways that are holistic, relational, and sustainable.

Description
Through activity-based, hands-on learning and with the support of Elders and Knowledge Keepers throughout the week, this program offers a space to explore leadership through storytelling, values reflection, and responsibilities in relation to:

Land, Culture, and Community Leadership
Engage in ceremony and shared cultural grounding
Learn on the land through outdoor education and embodied learning
Centre storytelling as a leadership practice

Professional Development and Systems Navigation
Build confidence in leadership skills, emotional intelligence, and voice
Strengthen communication, advocacy, and conflict-resolution skills
Explore policy and governance systems
Learn strategies for sustainable leadership

Personal and Collective Wellness
Integrate mind, body, emotion, and spirit
Practice reflection and self-awareness
Understand the connection between wellness and leadership effectiveness.

Eligibility
This program is for young Indigenous people who are:

  • 18-30 years old
  • Early in their leadership journey, formally or informally
  • Stepping into responsibility without prior training or mentorship (or seeking more)
  • Involved in or exploring governance, community leadership, advocacy, organizing, or policy spaces
  • Seeking cultural grounding alongside practical leadership skills
  • Coming from diverse contexts, including northern, remote, rural, and urban communities
  • Inclusive of First Nations, Métis, and Inuit people, including 2SLGBTQIA+ people and those with diverse identities
  • Priority is given to Indigenous learners and those working for Indigenous communities and organizations.


Applicants must be 18 to 30 years old at the start of the program.

Certificate of Indigenous Leadership, Governance and Management Excellence
Indigenous leadership programs are strategically focused on building your capacity to successfully assist your community and organization. Individuals who successfully complete a program from each of the seven wise practice elements will earn a Certificate of Indigenous Leadership, Governance, and Management Excellence.
