Canada’s first standing strawberry u-pick soon opens for the season an hour from Vancouver

14 May 20263 Mins Read

Believe it or not, u-pick season kicks off in B.C. this weekend, with Maan Farms ready to welcome strawberry lovers with baskets and delicious, locally grown fruit straight from the vine.

And if picking your own fresh fruit sounds appealing, but crouching down to pick each berry doesn’t, we’ve got great news to share. Maan Farms has Canada’s first standing strawberry u-pick, utilizing new elevated rows in high tunnels that bring the fruit up to your level!

The covered u-pick area ensures everyone enjoys a comfortable, rain-free experience harvesting their own fruit.

Situated an hour from Vancouver in Abbotsford, Maan Farms is a convenient spot to head to for an afternoon at a working farm.

U-pick season officially begins with strawberries over the May long weekend, with tickets now available from Friday, May 15, to Sunday, May 18.

A few things to know before you go:

Everyone aged three and above must purchase a container to enter the u-pick field, and no outside containers are permitted.

U-pickers must refrain from eating their berries in the field, and leave their pets, backpacks, and strollers at home.

Note that booking online ahead of time secures your u-pick spot, as Maan Farms will accept limited walk-ins.

Once your berries are picked, the farm recommends storing them somewhere cool until they can be refrigerated. When you’re ready to eat some, rinse any dirt off by gently dipping your berries in a bowl of cold water.

How much does it cost to pick your own strawberries?

You can fill a pint basket for $11.65, a three-pound basket for $18.55, or opt for a Summer VIP pass for $53 per person, which gets you a one-pound u-pick basket, barnyard admission, one glass of wine or strawberry lemonade, one bag of animal feed to feed the baby animals, and a Comeback Pass.

As it’s still early in the season, not all u-pick dates or times are available yet, and will depend upon field conditions. So stay tuned for upcoming spring and summer dates where the berry-picking fun continues!

And if you’re more of a blueberry or raspberry person, your time will come at the u-pick fields sooner than you may think.

When: May 15 to 18, and upcoming dates in May and June, TBA
Time: 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Where: 790 McKenzie Rd., Abbotsford
Cost: $11.65 to fill a pint basket, $18.55 for three-pound baskets, and $53 for Summer VIP
