We were expecting more from the first week of If Wishes Could Kill, which features a cast of some of Korea’s most talented young actors. Netflix has yet to renew the series for a second season. Unless its viewership improves, we aren’t likely to see a second season of If Wishes Could Kill anytime soon.
If Wishes Could Kill is a South Korean Netflix Original YA Horror drama series directed by Park Yoon Seo and written by Park Joong Seop.
The series stars Jeon So Young (My Youth), Kang Mi Na (Summer Guys), Baek Sun Ho (Kick Kick Kick Kick), Hyun Woo Seok (Live On), and Lee Hyo Je (My Country: The New Age).
The series centers on a group of students from Seorin High School who discover a mysterious phone app that grants wishes; unbeknownst to them, it also carries a deadly curse for those who use it.
If Wishes Could Kill season 2 Netflix renewal status
Official Netflix Renewal Status: Pending (Last Updated: 30/04/2026)
At the time of writing, Netflix has yet to make a decision on the renewal of If Wishes Could Kill.
Looking at the first week’s data, the series isn’t off to a modest start, debuting with 16.9 million hours viewed, which equates to 2.8 million Netflix views.
| Week in Top 10 | Week Period | Hours Viewed | Views / CVE | Weekly Rank |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 | Apr 19 to Apr 26, 2026 | 16,900,000 (New) | 2,800,000 | 4 |
This is how If Wishes Could Kill’s performance compares to other K-dramas.
While 2.8 million lags behind some of the other titles on the list, it isn’t the worst-performing new original K-drama on Netflix, as it outperformed Boyfriend on Demand by 200,000 views. There’s still time for the series to amass more views and grow its audience. If the series sees a drop in viewership in the second week, then it’s highly unlikely we’ll get a second season.
The director of the series, Park Yoon Seo, has commented on the future of the series and possible plans for the story if the series is renewed:
“In Season 1, the thing I struggled most with — whether to include it or not — was the story of Haetsal and Bang Ul meeting. It seems the writer has plenty of material for that. I think it’ll be interesting to incorporate those elements into Season 2.” “I hope Jeon So Nee and Roh Jae Won will join Season 2″… So I also hope viewers will show lots of love for the Haetsal–Bang Ul storyline.”
However, at this time, we are leaning towards cancellation unless the series sees a significant improvement in viewership.

Does If Wishes Could Kill need a second season?
If the mid-credits scene is anything to go by, then there is certainly room for a second season. While Si Won’s phone has been destroyed, the app is still on Na Ri’s abandoned phone, and a student has been drawn to it, likely to claim a new host and victim. Is it just as simple as deleting all traces of the app to eradicate the curse? Unlikely. For all we know, the curse could already have evolved, but one thing is for certain: so long as the curse has access to desperate people willing to risk it all for a wish, it will continue to take new victims.

Cast members who could return in If Wishes Could Kill season 2
We could expect to see three of the five leading cast members return in season 3:
- Jeon So Young as Yoo Se A.
- Baek Sun Ho as Kim Geon U.
- Hyun Woo Seok as Kang Ha Jun.
As victims of the curse, we would not expect to see Kang Mi Na return as Im Na Ri, or Lee Hyo Je as Choi Hyeong Uk. Unless, of course, a wish is made to return all victims to life, but that could have unforeseen and further devastating consequences.

Other actors and their respective roles we wouldn’t expect to see in season 2, thanks to dying at the hands of the curse, are:
- Choi Ju Eun as Kwon Si Won.
- Kim Shi Ah as Do Hye Ryeong.
