Downtown Edmonton is hosting a winter festival with free festive treats and an après-ski party

29 October 20263 Mins Read

Downtown Edmonton‘s Winterval is back this November to kick off the winter season with loads of festivities ranging from street hockey games to an après-ski party and much more.

For one evening next month, Edmonton’s 104th Street is going to be bustling with holiday energy for its annual seasonal festival. Each winter, Winterval takes over the downtown core with loads of dazzling lights and displays, fun activities like dance parties and photos with Santa, and loads more magic bringing the streets to life.

What to know about this year’s Winterval

Where and when is Winterval taking place?

Winterval will be held this Saturday, Nov. 21, from 4 to 8 p.m.

The festival takes place along 104th Street between Jasper Avenue and 102nd Avenue, which is also home to the new 104th Street Entertainment District.

What’s the best way to get there?

According to the Downtown Edmonton Business Association, the festival is “easy to reach by car, LRT, or on foot.”

For those taking transit, there are several LRT and bus routes that run along Jasper Avenue, including:

  • Bay/Enterprise Square Station on the Capital Line (which connects directly underground to 104th Street)
  • 102nd Street Valley Line stop (just a couple of blocks away from the festival site)
  • #5, #900X, #8 and the #2 major bus routes (these all stop between 105th Street and 104th Street on Jasper Avenue)

Are there places to park nearby?

On the festival’s webpage, the business association has listed a variety of parking options and places you’ll be able to check rates online, including:

What street activities are happening this year?

Each year, the festival brings along a great lineup of fun festivities. This year is no different, and the street activity lineup includes things like:

  • Street hockey
  • Photos with Santa
  • Free maple taffy
  • A capella performances by ETown Extended
  • Holiday photo ops
  • Warm-up stations
  • Street performers
  • A street-wide winter patio
  • An après-ski zone with live DJs and dancing

In addition to these street activities, there will be nearby stores and shops with their own business activations. These festive experiences are still being worked on and will be announced soon.

Who’s on the DJ lineup at the après-ski zone?

The DJs bringing all the beats to Winterval this year include:

  • Kena Leon
  • Lugz
  • Post Meridian
  • Syd

Will drinking be allowed on the festival grounds?

According to a post by the Edmonton Downtown Business Association, the Entertainment District will be activated.

This means, yes, visitors will be able to consume alcoholic beverages on the street (provided you are still within the festival grounds and Entertainment District).

For those looking for a way to celebrate the season this November, Winterval is definitely an event to consider checking out. With loads of fun festivities, exciting activities, and more, a major good time is in store for this winter weekend.
