How to get Sephiroth’s Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance

22 October 202610 Mins Read

As you play Final Fantasy Resonance, you may be wondering where Sephiroth’s Vision is. You can see it in the menu, greyed out, and certainly the iconic antagonist from Final Fantasy 7 wouldn’t just be found in a shrine like the rest of the Visions from other games. Well, you’re right. Sephiroth is somewhat hidden, though to unlock him, you’ll need to actually defeat him as a boss.

Below, we detail where to find Sephiroth’s Vision, what the Vision does, and how to beat the Sephiroth boss in Final Fantasy Resonance.

Where to find Sephiroth’s Vision in Final Fantasy Resonance

Once you get the airship at the start of Chapter 5, you can fly over to this whirlpool north of the bridge that leads to the desert in Grandshelt. When you float over it, you’ll get a prompt to enter.

Once inside, you’ll realize it’s the same as the other Vision shrines. However, once you interact with the crystal, it will warn you that you need to take on a challenge before you can actually get the Vision. Proceed if you’re ready, but consider reading up on what this boss does before you jump in.

Sephiroth is a three-phase fight, but the boss himself doesn’t have separate health bars or anything like that. He has a total of 250,000 HP and stands at level 45, though you’ll want to be quite a bit higher than that to take him down easier.

Before you start, there are a few things you should know about the fight:

  • Use Libra at the start of every phase to keep an eye on his HP and his elemental weaknesses, but in phase two, Sephiroth will have two instances where you can use Libra on him.
  • Bring a dedicated healer. You will not be able to scrape by with weaker healing and healing items.
  • Firion’s “Arms Akimbo” Mastery Skill (learned at mastery level 9) is nearly a requirement — especially on your healer. This will allow you to take two turns, allowing your healer to dish out party-wide heals in addition to raising anyone who is down.
  • Fitting Rain with the Warrior of Light Vision is a good pick for this fight. This will make him immune to dark damage, and grant him direct access to the “Multi-Cover” skill, which redirects all damage taken to the user. With this, Rain can take the full damage from “Heartless Angel,” so the rest of your party doesn’t have to deal with being left with 1 HP. Rain can also prevent “Nihilistic Solitude” from debuffing everyone by tanking all the hits. Have Rain use “Provoke” and/or “Multi-Cover” throughout the fight to keep the rest of your team healthy.
  • Keeping Sephiroth busy trying to remove your buffs is a valid strategy. Using the above method to have Rain tank “Nihilistic Solitude,” you can force Sephiroth to keep trying to cast “Nihilistic Solitude” repeatedly to clear your buffs, thus avoiding his more devastating attacks, like “Graviga.” Nichol is a good party member for mass-casting buffs. You will need to keep healing Rain to make sure he stays alive, though.
  • Be careful about what Espers you use, if you use any. Since Sephiroth rotates elemental resistances, you may want to stick with non-elemental Espers (like Odin or Bahamut) if you have them. Using Carbuncle starting in phase two will grant too many buffs, and they’ll be removed, so we don’t recommend using them either, unless you’re following the Rain strategy above.
  • Using Lid’s “Mechamog Scan” skill (which is unlocked via the Mechabo side quests you may have already been doing), will permanently implant a weakness on Sephiroth for the whole fight. This is particularly useful in his first phase, where he has no weakness, but will also give you an edge to help boost your damage numbers.
  • Genuinely, level up and come back later if you’re getting obliterated from Sephiroth’s AOE damage skills. If these are doing more than half of your party’s HP, you’re putting yourself at risk from losing to an unlucky “Graviga” combo.

If you’ve come here straight from unlocking the airship, it’s very possible to coast through this game up to this point, just throwing damage at bosses until they die. Sephiroth is the first boss in this game that truly punishes you for being unprepared, so don’t fret if it takes a few tries. You will need to come in with a set strategy, appropriate Visions, and decent armor in order to beat him.

With that being said, we’ve explained what your gameplan should look like for each phase in the sections below.

Phase 1

At the start of the fight, Sephiroth will alternate between dealing damage and casting “Masamune in Waiting,” which makes him block and counter physical attacks. He’ll cast various types of magic, as well as deal regular physical and dark physical damage. He does have higher magic defense during this phase, too.

Phase 2

Once he has approximately 200,000 HP left, he’ll become immune to all damage, and he’ll change phases. None of your attacks will have any effect while this transition happens, annoyingly, but this is how you know you’re in the next part (if you didn’t use Libra already). He will then cast “One-Winged Angel”, which will also signal that you’re in phase two and make him vulnerable again. Things can get tricky during this phase.

The turn after Sephiroth casts “One-Winged Angel,” he’ll cast “Heartless Angel,” which will reduce your whole party’s HP to one. As we mentioned before, we strongly recommend using the Warrior of Light Vision on your tank, as they’ll gain access to the “Multi-Cover” skill, which will redirect all damage taken to the user. In this case, the rest of your party won’t lose any health, while your tank will be the only member at one HP. Afterward, he’ll charge up with a random element, and become weak to the opposing element. If you used Libra already, you’ll also notice that his details changed.

Do not attack him with whatever element he charged up with, as it’ll do no damage to him. You’ll either need to deal damage to the element he’s weak to, use light element skills, or use non-elemental attacks. However, he will counter you with AOE magic spells if you use non-elemental attacks. If his elemental infusion runs out, he’ll hit you with another “Heartless Angel,” so try your best to make it to the next phase before that happens.

Periodically, Sephiroth also has a slew of annoying skills he may cast throughout the fight, like “Graviga,” which cuts everyone’s HP in half, and a bunch of general AOE elemental or physical attacks. That being said, if you’re not paying attention and healing up, or if your party’s speed allows Sephiroth to have too many consecutive turns, this can lead to a “game over” screen pretty quickly.

Additionally, if your team has too many buffs, Sephiroth will cast “Nihilistic Solitude,” which deals dark damage and removes them all at once. If your party revolves around buffs, make sure your tank has the Warrior of Light Vision, because they’ll become immune to dark damage, and, with the help of the “Multi-Cover” skill, they can block the entirety of “Nihilistic Solitude” and save your party’s buffs.

Phase 3

With only 50,000 HP left, he will change to his final phase, which is functionally just a DPS check. During the phase change, he will again, be immune to damage. After this, he’ll cast “Divine Proclamation”, which will put an icon with a meteor in his row of buffs/debuffs, and he’ll cast “Heartless Angel” again, leaving your party with one HP. However, you can prepare in advance by casting “Multi-Cover” on your tank.

The meteor will count down every turn until it hits zero. Once it does, it’s game over. Luckily, at this phase, Sephiroth will get a definitive weakness to light (and he’ll start absorbing dark element skills). Just keep pounding on him with your strongest non-dark abilities until the fight is over, though of course, be mindful of your HP.

Sephiroth Vision abilities and masteries

Well, is Sephiroth’s Vision worth all that hard work? Resoundingly, yes. Sephiroth is probably the best Vision in the game when it comes to dealing damage, as he has a wide variety of elemental damage types and passive abilities.

Sephiroth’s Resonance is “True Octaslash” which deals non-elemental physical damage to all enemies (eight slashes, who would have thought?). When paired with his own “Ultimate Aggression” mastery bonus, this means each of those eight hits will crit, which in turn means a whole lot of damage, especially when paired with Terra’s “Breaking the Limit” mastery bonus.
