Nintendo’s celebration of Zelda’s 40th sounds big
For The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary, Nintendo is going all out with a dedicated Nintendo Direct showcase that will hopefully give fans a peek at the long-awaited The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake and the upcoming live-action movie based on the action-RPG franchise. But that’s not all we expect out of the Zelda-focused Nintendo Direct; leaks have pointed to new Nintendo Switch 2 hardware and updated versions of classic Legend of Zelda franchise games.
When is The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct?
The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will stream on Tuesday, Sept. 8, at 7 a.m. PDT / 10 a.m. EDT. The showcase will stream on Nintendo’s YouTube and Twitch channels. Below, you can check how this looks in your time zone:
- 7 a.m. PDT on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for the west coast of North America
- 10 a.m. EDT on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for the east coast of North America
- 11 a.m. BRT on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for Brazil
- 3 p.m. BST on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for the U.K.
- 4 p.m. CEST on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for western Europe
- 11 p.m. JST on Tuesday, Sept. 8 for Japan
- 12 a.m. AEST on Wednesday, Sept. 9 for the east coast of Australia
Nintendo says The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct will be approximately 30 minutes long and will “deliver a variety of The Legend of Zelda related information.” Nintendo has a follow-up Nintendo Direct planned for the next day.
What will Nintendo announce at The Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct?
We expect some big announcements, including a preview of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2; a look at The Legend of Zelda movie, including confirmation of the film’s reported cast; and new Nintendo hardware, including a Zelda-themed Switch 2 and matching Joy-Con 2 controllers and a Switch 2 Pro Controller. We may also get a peek at upcoming merchandise (like action figures) coming alongside next year’s Zelda movie.
We’re also expecting some payoff for the long-standing rumors about HD remasters of games like The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess. Hopefully, Nintendo has more in store for Zelda fans, with more games coming in 2027 and beyond.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake for Nintendo Switch 2 is slated for a 2026 release, while Sony Pictures’ The Legend of Zelda movie arrives in theaters on April 30, 2027.
