iRobot’s newest floor cleaner isn’t a robot

iRobot just announced its first-ever non-robotic floor cleaner. The $399 Roomba Electro Plus is a 5-in-1 hard-floor cleaner that combines vacuuming, mopping, and disinfecting, but you have to operate it yourself. The company also announced updates to its line of Roomba robot vacuums, launching five new models with higher suction power, smaller footprints, and lower prices. These largely replace the line that arrived in 2025.

Designed exclusively for hard floors, the new Electro Plus is similar to the new breed of manual wet-dry floor cleaners available from Dreame, Roborock, and others. iRobot’s distinguishing feature is Electro’s ability to turn regular tap water into a commercial-grade disinfectant cleaning solution that is safe for kids and pets simply by electrolyzing it.

The cordless vacuum/mop has a self-cleaning roller mop and a motor to help propel it, reducing the amount of manual effort required. Its charging dock washes and dries the mop after use with hot water and hot air, but you need to drain, clean, and refill its water tank.

iRobot says the Electro Plus is something its customers had been asking for, and fills a gap in their homes. “If they have a mess that they want to clean up, maybe they want to do that quickly with this type of handheld product,” iRobot chief engineer and vice president Adam Pope told The Verge. “Personally, I love that I can sanitize my bathroom and kitchen with it and let the Roombas take care of the rest of the house.”

The key innovation in the Electro Plus is that it doesn’t require a separate cleaning solution. Instead, it uses electrolyzing technology developed by iRobot’s parent company, Picea, that turns tap water into a commercial-grade sanitizing solution capable of killing 99.9% of bacteria, viruses, fungi, and other germs.

Picea, which previously served as iRobot’s ODM, acquired the company this year following its bankruptcy. The companies had already been working together — the lidar-based Roomba lineup introduced in 2025 was manufactured with Picea.

Along with the Electro Plus, iRobot launched five new Roomba robot vacuums for the US. These new models, first announced in Europe in May, are mostly incremental updates to those robots, paired with significant price drops.

The top-of-the-line Roomba Max 775 Combo Robot + Auto Wash Dock ($999.99) is an upgrade to the Roomba Max 705 Combo ($1,299.99). It adds increased suction power (30,000Pa), hot-water mop washing, and hot-water stain cleaning to the roller-mop robot.

The Roomba Max 715 Vacuum Robot + Auto Empty Dock ($699.99), updates the Roomba Max 705 ($899.99) with increased suction power, 30,000Pa up from 13,000Pa, and a lower price. Both robots have Roomba’s signature dual rubber roller brushes with anti-tangle tech, along with the lidar navigation and AI-powered obstacle detection of the previous models.

The midrange Roomba Plus 575 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock ($799.99) replaces the Roomba 505 ($999.99) and is almost half the size, thanks to a new dual-lidar sensor. iRobot chief engineer & vice president Adam Pope tells The Verge this new technology enabled them to fit more tech into a smaller space. With 9 cm of clearance and a narrower width, the 575 should more easily fit under furniture and cabinets.

The mopping robot vacuum features dual spinning mop pads, a boost to 20,000Pa suction, hot-water mop washing and drying, and an onboard water tank. It uses a camera for AI-powered obstacle and dirt detection, enabling a Smart Scrub feature that can go back and forth over dirty areas. It can also now climb over thresholds as high as 35mm.

The same goes for the new Roomba Plus 515 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock ($699.99), which has similar functionality to the 575, with lower threshold clearance, slightly lower suction power, and no camera, so no AI-powered obstacle or stain detection.

The Roomba Plus 415 Combo Robot + AutoWash Dock ($599.99) replaces the Roomba 405 ($799.99), adding increased suction power, anti-tangle brush tech, and the ability to extend its mops. It lacks an onboard water tank of the 515 and doesn’t use hot water to wash its mops.

The US lineup doesn’t include the Roomba Plus 615 and Roomba 675 roller mop models, or the entry-level Roomba 115 Combo, which are available in other countries. All the new models are available to preorder today, July 7th, on irobot.com.
