Kirk Herbstreit may soon have another golden retriever joining his family, and his Nonstop with Kirk & Joey co-host Joey Galloway already has a name picked out.
During a recent conversation on the show, Galloway asked Herbstreit how many dogs he has. The ESPN college football analyst confirmed he currently has four before teasing that another pup could be on the way.
“Got four,” Herbstreit said, transitioning his voice to a whisper and holding a finger to his lips. “Might get five.”

That was all Galloway needed to hear. He quickly made it clear that he would support the addition under one condition – the new dog would have to be named Joey.
“Until you get a Joey in there, I don’t care,” Galloway joked, referencing Herbstreit’s pack of Golden Retrievers that all bare human names, including: Peter, Theo, Mitch, and Beau.

Herbstreit played along, suggesting that the name might already be in the works. When Galloway asked whether they had picked one out, Herbstreit responded, “Don’t tell Allie, but maybe number five coming up” before adding that it wasn’t quite official.
Galloway wasn’t ready to let the name idea go.
“I gave you a name,” he said. “Unless you get a dog named Joey, I’m not in.”
For now, there’s no official announcement that a fifth golden retriever is joining the Herbstreit household, but if the playful exchange is any indication, Galloway is already invested in making sure the newest pup has a name worthy of the Nonstop with Kirk & Joey family.
“When you name the dog Joey, I’m in,” Galloway joked at the end of the short clip.
Fans of Herbstreit’s dogs were quick to weigh in on the announcement in the comment section.
“How do I get adopted by the Herbstreit family as a grown adult? I’ve been limited to 2 golden retrievers and it’s not fair,” one fan joked.
Another added, “Number 5!?! Can’t wait to see that floofy puppy.”
Others were already on board with the potential pup’s new name.
“Awww sooo cute!!! Welcome to the family Joey!” one fan wrote.
Another chimed in, “Team Joey! Come on new puppy Joey!”
