‘Love Sick’ New Netflix Romantic Drama Starring Claire Danes in Development at Netflix

Netflix recently won a “heated bidding war” for the romantic drama series Lovesick. The series, which will star Homeland and The Beast in Me actress Claire Danes, will star her as Annika. Other details are limited, but here is everything we need to know about Lovesick on Netflix.

Lovesick is an upcoming Netflix Original romantic drama series written, created, and executive produced by Sarah Treem. The series is produced by Keshet Studios’ Avi Nir (Homeland), Keran Shahar (Total Control), and Peter Traugott (Echo 3). Actress Claire Danes is also an executive producer.

What is the plot of Lovesick?

Netflix has provided details for the synopsis:

“Annika, a renowned breast cancer surgeon, has just received her own cancer diagnosis. Her new patient, Nate, is a promising politician. The series explores their interwoven lives, delving into themes of love, sex, illness, death, family, children, health, medicine, and the meaning of life—all while Annika is simultaneously undergoing breast cancer treatment.”

Sarah Treem shared a statement with Netflix about the exciting opportunity to tell the story of Lovesick:

“To get to tell a story about all the things keeping me up at night anyway — life, death, children, love, middle-age, courage, science and faith — is an extraordinary opportunity I don’t take lightly in these turbulent times,”

Who are the cast members of Lovesick?

Claire Danes will lead the series in the role of Annika, her second Netflix project to date, after previously starring in Netflix’s mystery-thriller limited series The Beast in Me as Aggie Wiggs. Danes is most well known for her role as Carrie Mathison in Homeland, which ran for 8 seasons on Showtime between October 2011 and 2020. She also starred in Baz Luhrmann’s Romeo + Juliet and in the British fantasy-romantic-adventure Stardust.

Treem also shared a statement about having the opportunity to work with Claire Danes:

“I’m thrilled to get to tell this story with the genius, Claire Danes,” Treem says. “We’ve been looking for something to do together for a very long time and this character, Annika, is perhaps a mix of both of our wildest dreams.”

Danes is the only confirmed cast member at this time.
