The long-anticipated follow-up to Berlin is finally on the horizon. After dropping on Netflix in December 2023 and making waves in the top 10 charts, the Money Heist prequel is officially returning. Netflix has confirmed the second season, titled Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine, will premiere globally in May 2026.

Rewinding the clock on Money Heist, the prequel series saw Pedro Alonso suit up once again as the iconic character Andrés de Fonollosa, better known by his codename, Berlin. He first played the role in Money Heist back in 2017, with season 1 of the prequel dropping on December 29th, 2023.

While Season 1 took us to Paris, Season 2 is heading to the south of Spain. Following production updates throughout 2025, Netflix dropped major news in December of last year and now again in January 2026, including the official title, a new trailer, new stills, and the final release date.

Here is everything you need to know.

When will Berlin Season 2 be released on Netflix?

Official Release Date: May 15th, 2026

Netflix officially confirmed via a “First Look” announcement in late 2025 that the series would return on May 15th, 2026. On January 28th, 2026, Netflix released the first teaser trailer:

The season will consist of eight episodes, with filming on the new season having kicked off in January 2026:

What is the plot of Berlin Season 2?

While Season 1 was a jewel heist in Paris, Season 2 shifts the location to Seville, Spain, and comes with a unique subtitle: “Berlin and the Lady with an Ermine.”

According to the official synopsis provided by Netflix, the gang is reuniting to pull off a “master heist” involving the famous painting The Lady with an Ermine. However, in true Berlin fashion, things are not quite what they seem.

The official plot summary is as follows:

“Berlin and Damián bring the gang together, this time in Seville, to pull off a master heist: pretending to steal the Lady with an Ermine. Pretending? Why? Because their real target is the Duke of Málaga and his wife, a couple who think they can blackmail Berlin. What they don’t expect is that their challenge will awaken Berlin’s darkest side — and his thirst for revenge.”

This confirms that the new season will lean heavily into a revenge plot, triggered by blackmail from the Duke and Duchess of Málaga.

The season was filmed across several Spanish locations, including Seville, Madrid, San Sebastián, and Peñíscola.

The series continues to be steered by Money Heist creators Álex Pina and Esther Martínez Lobato. The writing team for Season 2 includes Pina and Lobato alongside David Barrocal, Lorena G. Maldonado, Itziar Sanjuán, Humberto Ortega, and Luis Garrido Julve.

Directing duties for the eight episodes are split between Albert Pintó, David Barrocal, and José Manuel Cravioto.

How well did Berlin Season 1 perform on Netflix?

The renewal was a no-brainer for Netflix given the show’s massive success. Using statistics from Netflix and the global top 10s, we can see why a second season was prioritized.

Berlin once ranked as the ninth-largest international TV series of all time on Netflix, with 372.60 million hours watched (equivalent to 56.7 million views) in its first 91 days of release, though it’s since been pushed out.

According to Netflix data, the show entered the top 10s in 91 countries and ultimately featured in the weekly global top 10s for seven weeks. Here’s how that breaks down week-to-week:
