Netflix’s hit rom-com series is headed back to the streaming service this fall for its third season. That’s right, Season 3 of Nobody Wants This drops in one month, and you can catch up on Joanne (Kristen Bell) and Noah’s (Adam Brody) on-and-off-again relationship starting October 22.
The new season premieres almost one year to the day after Season 2, and if you can’t quite remember what happened when you last watched Bell and Brody, here’s a quick recap: Joanne and Noah’s over-the-top adorable relationship flounders when she can’t commit to converting. The pair breaks up, then reunites. But wait, there were more breakups and shake-ups. Morgan (Justine Lupe) and her therapist, Dr. Andy (Arian Moayed), get engaged and eventually break up. And then there were Esther (Jackie Tohn) and Sasha (Timothy Simons). The seemingly strong couple (aside from Sasha’s too-close-for-comfort friendship with Morgan) calls it quits when Esther decides to focus on herself.
Series creator Erin Foster shared some insight into the Season 2 finale (where Joanne and Noah find their way back to each other) with Netflix Tudum: “We wanted to end on romance, not religion.” Foster continued, “The romance is him saying, ‘I don’t care what you are, I’m choosing you.’ We don’t really need to hear her saying, ‘Oh my God, you’re not going to believe this. I’ve been Jewish this entire time,’ because we know that’s about to happen.”
So what can viewers expect from Season 3? To start with, Joanne and Noah move in together. Co-showrunner and executive producer Bruce Eric Kaplan tells Netflix Tudum, “After the ups and downs of Noah and Joanne in Season 2, it was really important for us to be like, ‘Let’s let them have their moment now of settling in and having fun.’”
Foster adds, “We wanted to make sure that this couple is still fun and flirty with each other. That’s the thing that makes them special and why they like each other so much.”
Meanwhile…Sasha and Esther are now both single-ish and dating again, and Morgan is focusing on her career, becoming somewhat of a media sensation. And while you might tune in to see your favorite characters, Season 3 brings some pretty exciting new cast members.
Sarah Silverman, Andrew Rannells, Poorna Jagannathan, Sadie Sandler, Stephanie Koenig, Steven Weber, and Keyla Monterroso Mejia will join Bell and Brody for Season 3. But those aren’t even the most anticipated additions. Foster (yes, that Erin Foster, the show’s creator and executive producer) will appear as a mysterious character named Nicole.
Foster isn’t giving away too much about her cameo, but did say, “Nicole really represents this sort of single, scatterbrained, crazy version that Joanne used to see herself as.”
