One of Edmonton’s oldest theatres is offering a $5 ticket deal for the season

16 June 20263 Mins Read

Throughout June, July, and August, the historic Metro Cinema is offering cheap movie tickets on Tuesdays, and it’s an absolute steal of a deal.

Metro Cinema is one of the oldest theatres in Edmonton, originally built as the Garneau Theatre and designed in the Art Moderne style by William Blaikie for Suburban Theatres of Edmonton. It’s personally one of my favourite venues, along with the majority of my friends, for its uplifting community spirit and unbeatable vibes. You won’t find a better atmosphere with cinephiles and Letterboxd fiends.

The summer brings back the best deals at the Metro. It started on June 2, and it’ll last all throughout the summer, meaning $5 Tuesdays are officially back at the theatre.

Keep in mind, the discounted ticket price only applies to all regular Metro Cinema screenings (which means rentals and special events are exempt).

What movies will be playing?

There’s a whole list of great movies coming up, especially on Tuesdays.

Backrooms will be playing on June 16 and 23, and the theatre is closed for maintenance on the 30th. If you haven’t caught wind of this liminal horror, it’s a must-watch for lovers of everything creepy and weird. Following the story of a man named Clark, you’ll be taken through the endless rooms he explores and the things he discovers inside.

Another absolute star of a show is I Love Boosters, featuring icon and legend Keke Palmer. It’ll be playing today, June 16, at 6:30 p.m., and this is one you won’t want to miss. Love rooting for the underdog? You’ll definitely be a fan of this ragtag group of shoplifters targeting a cutthroat fashion mogul who isn’t a fan of their ‘fashion-forward philanthropy’.

As for the rest of the months, you’ll have to keep an eye on Metro Cinema’s calendar online or on its social media. You’ll be able to see everything coming up on its slate, as well as any special events going on at the theatre.

There’s honestly no better time to take advantage of this deal, so I’d recommend stopping by this summer for a memorable experience. Whether you just love the movies or you love supporting local, there’s always going to be a good reason to hit up the Metro.

When: Every Tuesday now until the end of August
Time: Various showtimes
Where: 8712 109th St. NW, Edmonton, Alta.
Cost: $5
