It’s time to prepare for a heartbreaking farewell. One of the defining, most critically acclaimed series of Netflix’s late-2010s streaming boom is officially packing its bags. The End of the F***ing World, the brilliantly dark British comedy that took the world by storm and which Netflix shared with Channel 4, is confirmed to be leaving the service.
A newly surfaced “Last day to watch on Netflix” notice has appeared on the platform, confirming that your final chance to tag along on James and Alyssa’s chaotic teenage road trip is November 4, 2026, with the series officially departing the library on November 5. Something we’ve given you plenty of warning about, including just before the year got underway. .
Looking Back at The End of the F***ing World
When the first season of The End of the F***ing World dropped globally on Netflix in January 2018 (following a late-2017 broadcast on Channel 4 in the UK), it became an instant word-of-mouth sensation. Based on the graphic novel by Charles Forsman, the series introduced us to James (Alex Lawther), a 17-year-old who is pretty sure he’s a psychopath, and Alyssa (Jessica Barden), a foul-mouthed, rebellious classmate who sees James as an escape from her tumultuous home life.
The reaction from both critics and subscribers was explosive. Praised for its rapid-fire pacing, incredible indie soundtrack, and the surprisingly tender romance hidden beneath layers of cynical teen angst, the show was a masterclass in deadpan storytelling. The first season boasts a near-perfect 96% on Rotten Tomatoes, and the show went on to win a prestigious Peabody Award, as well as multiple BAFTAs (including Best Drama Series) following its second and final season, which premiered in November 2019.
The show isn’t a huge hit on Netflix anymore, with the Netflix Engagement Report data covering 2023 through mid-2026 suggesting it picked up close to 60 million viewing hours during that period, a far cry from some other bigger Netflix Originals from that era.
If it’s a Netflix Original, why is it leaving?
Seeing a show with that trademark red “N” vanish from the platform can be jarring, but not all Netflix Originals are wholly owned by the streamer.
The End of the F***ing World was originally commissioned by Channel 4 in the UK, with Netflix stepping in as a co-producer and exclusive international distributor. Like many of Netflix’s early distribution deals for international shows (think Peaky Blinders or Derry Girls), these contracts are strictly time-bound and while they can be renewed, it would not appear to be the case in this instance.
In this case, it appears Netflix secured a seven-year streaming window following the release of the show’s final season. With Season 2 having premiered in November 2019, that contract has officially run its course. The underlying rights will now revert to the original distributors, meaning Netflix is legally obligated to remove the show unless a new, separate licensing agreement is struck.
Over 100 Netflix Originals are scheduled to leave the platform throughout 2026 as these older, fixed-term contracts from Netflix’s early expansion era expire. November 2026 alone is shaping up to be a brutal month for Original removals; alongside this beloved British comedy, Netflix is also axing the highly nostalgic Gilmore Girls: A Year in the Life (departing November 25), and several others.
Because The End of the F***ing World only consists of two short, easily digestible eight-episode seasons (with episodes clocking in at around 20 minutes each), there’s still plenty of time to squeeze in one final binge-watch. Just make sure you finish your road trip before the clock strikes midnight on November 4th.
