One of the world’s best new stays is this scenic Canadian hotel in the Rockies

3 September 20263 Mins Read

If you’re looking for a great Canadian hotel to check out, one beautiful spot in the Rockies was just named one of the world’s best new hotels.

The Fairmont Jasper Park Lodge in Jasper National Park, Alta., was the only Canadian property to make National Geographic’s inaugural list of the 20 best new hotels around the world.

The list highlights new and recently renovated hotels from across the globe, and the 104-year-old Jasper property definitely falls into the latter category.

Described as a sanctuary, the property recently underwent a massive multimillion-dollar renovation following the 2024 wildfires that introduced new elements inspired by the UNESCO-designated landscape surrounding the hotel.

If you’re interested in seeing what it looks like, we had an opportunity to check out the new rooms and get a sneak peek at the lobby during our visit last winter. The new reno features blue hues that match Beauvert Lake, with carved wood and natural textures throughout.

The dining experience at the Jasper Park Lodge has also been significantly updated with three new restaurants: Lume, serving craft cocktails and plant-forward bites; Elderwood, with locally inspired, family-style meals; and The Barbicon, a high-end steakhouse.

National Geographic also noted it’s a great spot for groups and families, with a mix of lodge accommodations and private cabins. Its concierge can help arrange a range of experiences around Jasper, including kayaking, guided glacier walks, and even helicopter-accessed foraging and picnic trips.

For those looking to relax, the resort’s outdoor wellness offerings include a cold plunge in Beauvert Lake followed by time in a barrel sauna. We got to try the experience when it was first introduced last year and were surprised by how relaxing it was.

And last but not least, one of the biggest perks of staying at Jasper Park Lodge is the sky above you. The property is located within the Jasper Dark Sky Preserve, making it an ideal place to take in the night sky.

The on-site Jasper Planetarium offers stargazing experiences, including opportunities to see the northern lights and explore the solar system through powerful telescopes.

Other spots to make the list of best hotels include the Coral Sands Inn & Cottages in the Bahamas, the Hanok Heritage Hotel in South Korea, and the Pinnacle Kigali in Rwanda.

You can view the full list on National Geographic’s website.
