Over 150 farms across Alberta are opening their doors for one weekend

23 July 20263 Mins Read

Alberta Open Farm Days is returning to the province this summer, giving you the chance to step beyond the grocery store and see where your food comes from. For one weekend, farm ranches, orchards, breweries, and food producers across the province will open their doors with tours, activities, and plenty of experience to experience Alberta agriculture in a whole new way.

So if you’ve ever wondered what happens behind those farm gates, this is your sign to go find out.

Alberta Open Farm Days activities

Alberta Open Farm Days gives visitors a look at the people, places, and processes behind Alberta’s farming industry. According to organizers, visitors can explore working farms, meet animals, chat directly with farmers and connect with local producers.

Some stops offer experiences that go beyond a traditional farm visit. At Aurora Alpacas in Sturgeon County, guests can meet alpacas and learn how the farm cares for its animals.

Barr Estate Winery will showcase Alberta’s growing wine industry, and guests will be able to learn more about the winemaking process and taste locally produced wines.

Meanwhile, the Bassano Dam Tour with the Eastern Irrigation District highlights the important role irrigation plays in Alberta agriculture. You can learn how these systems deliver water to farmland, support crop production, and contribute to the communities that rely on them.

With so many different locations participating across the province, no two Alberta Open Farm Days experiences will look the same.

Alberta Open Farm Days cost, dates, and details

Alberta Open Farm Days will take place on Saturday, Aug. 15, and Sunday, Aug. 16, 2026. And the events are completely free to attend. It’s important to note that some locations may offer additional experiences, meals, or activities available for purchase. So if you’re looking to visit a specific spot, it’s a good idea to check ahead to see what experiences are available and whether any extra costs apply.

And if you’re not sure which stops to add to your plans, the Alberta Open Farm Days website has an interactive map where you can browse participating locations and see what each farm has planned for the weekend.

Alberta Open Farm Days only comes around once a year, so if you’ve ever been curious about what happens on farms across the province, this is your chance to find out. All that’s left to do is choose your stops, hop in the car, and start exploring the waits waiting just beyond the city!

When: Saturday, Aug. 15 and Sunday, Aug 16, 2026
Time: Times vary based on the farm
Where: Locations vary
Cost: Free
