Scandic Freiburg Hotel Expected to Open Autumn 2027 in Germany

8 September 20262 Mins Read

In Brief: Scandic Hotels has announced plans to open the Scandic Freiburg Hotel in Germany in autumn 2027, signaling the brand’s ongoing growth strategy within the German hospitality sector and expanding its presence in a competitive European market.

Scandic has signed a long-term lease agreement for a 219-room hotel in Freiburg after IREMIS acquired the property from its current owner.

Scandic Freiburg will mark Scandic’s entry into Freiburg. IREMIS, a pan-European real estate investment manager, acquired the real estate, while Scandic signed the lease agreement. The project is part of Scandic’s growth in Germany through partnerships with property investors and the repositioning of existing hotel assets.

Freiburg is a university and business city in southwestern Germany near France and Switzerland. It is ranked among Germany’s top hotel markets and has leisure demand, as well as activity in sustainability, research, health care and green urban development.

The hotel is directly opposite Freiburg’s main railway station and adjacent to the Konzerthaus, a congress and event venue. Freiburg’s historic old town, retail areas, restaurants and cultural attractions are within walking distance. The hotel will serve business, meeting and leisure guests.

The property will be fully refurbished, including a complete renovation of all rooms, redesigned restaurant and bar areas, upgraded meeting facilities, and renewed wellness and fitness facilities. The hotel will have 219 rooms, approximately 480 square meters of flexible meeting space, restaurant and bar areas, and parking facilities.

The hotel’s operations will incorporate sustainability and be certified to the Nordic Swan Ecolabel. Scandic’s approach includes energy performance, long-term environmental standards and reduced impact across operations.

The refurbishment will include rooms based on Scandic’s Room Collection concept, which combines design, comfort and functionality with circular thinking and more sustainable material choices.

Scandic Freiburg is expected to open in autumn 2027 following the refurbishment.
