The Cape Town EDITION sits at Quay 7 in Cape Town’s working harbor, overlooking the V&A Waterfront’s new superyacht marina and facing Table Mountain. The property is near museums, art galleries, restaurants and retail locations in the Waterfront neighborhood.

Designed by Neri&Hu in collaboration with Cape Town-based architects and professional firms, the hotel references warehouse structures that previously occupied the site. Its design features a long, low-slung form, pitched rooflines and materials that reflect the harbor setting. More than 6 million bricks were laid by hand in shifting patterns across the facade.

The hotel includes a cylindrical space called The Drum, open above and featuring a spiraling staircase leading to an outdoor viewing platform. The platform overlooks the harbor, Table Mountain, the Atlantic Ocean and the Waterfront.

The property has 142 guestrooms and suites. Furnishings include custom pieces and rugs woven by KwaZulu-Natal-based Shuttleworth Weaving. Accommodations include a 240-square-meter Penthouse and a 112-square-meter Harbour Suite.

Design Network Africa sourced items from makers across the continent, including Zulu ukhamba vessels and mouth-blown recycled glass from Eswatini. Southern Guild curated artwork for the hotel, including Zanele Muholi photographic portraits in Punch Room, Usha Seejarim’s “Fading Dish Cloth” in the spa and Chuma Maweni ceramics in the lobby and dining areas.

Executive Chef Phil Carmichael and South African beverage partner George Hunter lead the hotel’s food-and-beverage program. Shale, the hotel’s restaurant, serves a seasonal menu using products from farmers, coastal fisheries, winemakers and independent producers. The restaurant dry-ages meat in-house and offers a predominantly South African wine list.

EAVE is an indoor-outdoor restaurant and bar beside the heated rooftop pool. The adjacent Pool Terrace serves breakfast, midday food, cocktails and light dinners. The ground-floor Lobby Bar includes a bar and pool table. Punch Room serves punches in bowls for sharing, including Brandewijn, which combines brandy, Pinotage, rooibos, pineapple, lemon and winter spice.

The spa is located below sea level and includes five treatment rooms, a couples’ suite, a sauna, a steam room, infrared beds and Therabody recovery boots. The hotel also has a 24-hour gym and a daily program of yoga, breathwork, sound baths and movement sessions near the heated rooftop pool and sun deck.

Meeting and event facilities include a ballroom with capacity for up to 200 people, a boardroom, two meeting studios, a private event terrace and a rooftop event space called Vantage.
