The Sims’ Biggest Rival Gets First Major Update Later This Year

26 August 20263 Mins Read

Paralives is a life sim game currently in early access, so the developers keep rolling out patches to improve its base game while working on expansions that will complement it and increase its replay value. Developer Paralives Studios has promised to keep any updates and expansion packs that may be released for the game free, as the studio has pledged to never charge fans beyond its purchase price. So far, free updates haven’t been issued, but that is about to change; early access backers will be happy to know that they will soon be able to explore the first major expansion coming to Paralives.

The Sims 4 is the biggest life simulator available on the market right now, but many have abandoned it. The game has been around for over a decade, and many fans have outgrown it. Others have lost interest in the gameplay loop. Some have simply decided to stop supporting the developers as a form of protest against the recent EA buyout. This is why many life simulator fans have kept tabs on Paralives from its development stage all the way to its early access release in May 2026 — it was the perfect contender to fill the life-simulator-shaped hole in their lives.

The devs have been working hard to get Paralives to an optimal state, but a lot still needs to be done. As the Steam reviews suggest, many fans felt like it was lacking on launch day. With over 100 likes, the current top comment says, “Paralives feels like someone released the skeleton of a life sim and said, ‘don’t worry, we’ll add the organs later,'” which is exactly what a big part of the community believes, as can be seen in dozens of similar comments. The game is still in early access, but for many, $39.99 is a hefty price tag for an incomplete title.

In order to improve Paralives further, several patches have gone live post-release, and many more are still to come. However, fans might not receive updates as often because the team is focusing on game optimization and the first free expansion. According to the latest update’s patch notes, “smaller patches will now be spaced further apart while the team works on its first major free expansion for late 2026.”

Paralives Aug. 24 update patch notes

Here is the full list of updates and fixes coming with Paralives‘ 0.1.8 patch:

  • Added an optional Classic camera: rotate with middle-click and pan with right-click; enable it in Options.
  • Build Mode menus can expand to 7 columns and Paramaker menus to 4 columns.
  • Updated Embarrassed animations to communicate the emotion more clearly.
  • Fixed learned information about other Paras not displaying correctly in the Para Info tab.
  • Turning on TVs and radios works again and opens a random channel or station.
  • Children seated on couches now use age-appropriate animations.
  • Households now vacate homes after all of their Paras have died.
  • Prevented time from advancing in Paramaker and killing Paras during creation.
  • Fixed visual issues with mirrors, roofs and shop displays, and optimized animation loading, newspaper generation and camera-occlusion fading to reduce stutters.

There are only four months left in the year, meaning the first content update is closer than many realized. Updates on the game’s development status are continuously rolling out. Besides purchasing the game, players can help by providing feedback so the developers can get Paralives ready for full release.

The Sims 4 will get a massive free content update very soon

Create-a-Sim and Build Mode are getting an upgrade with these freebies!
