Silversea has opened The Cormorant at 55 South, a 150-room hotel in Puerto Williams, Chile, for guests on its Antarctica Fly Cruise expeditions.
The hotel is the southernmost hotel on Earth.
The property has 150 rooms constructed in Mendoza, Argentina, using modular construction. The rooms were transported across the Andes and Patagonia to Puerto Williams, at 55 degrees south.
Guests on Antarctica Fly Cruise expeditions fly nonstop from Silversea’s private terminal in Santiago to Puerto Williams on Silversea-branded charter flights. They stay at The Cormorant before and after their voyage.
The hotel includes Latitude 55, a restaurant serving food based on Chilean flavors, regional ingredients and local culinary traditions, including asado. Dinner is served family-style with large platters at the center of the table.
Bar Sur serves teas and small bites during the day, followed by Chilean wines and spirits in the evening. Its wine list includes wines from across Chile. The bar’s cocktails use calafate, a native berry, and Chilean pisco. The hotel also offers guided pisco experiences and wine tastings led by its sommelier.
Other hotel spaces include a Fireplace with seating and windows overlooking the Patagonian landscape. The interiors include three works by Chilean artists: Navarino, a steel sculpture by Paola Vezzani in the main lobby; Dientes de Navarino, a bar mural by Cata Flaño; and La Memoria de las Piedras, an installation of 70 handcrafted ceramic stones by Javier Canales.
Outdoor activities include kayaking in the Beagle Channel, hiking shoreline trails at Seno Lauta and horseback exploration. The surrounding area includes cormorants, dolphin gulls and upland geese.
Through March 2027, Silver Endeavour, Silver Wind and Silver Cloud will operate 40 voyages, including 29 Antarctica Fly Cruise voyages that include stays at The Cormorant at 55 South. The itineraries range from six to 21 nights and include the Antarctic Peninsula, South Georgia and the Falkland Islands.
