There’s a free craft day with knitting and crochet workshops coming to this Edmonton park

26 August 20263 Mins Read

Craft for YEG in the Park is the first event in Alberta Craft‘s free outdoor craft series, and it’s bringing all the supplies to Edmonton this weekend!

This upcoming craft event is inviting people in Edmonton to bring their own craft project or get ready to start a new one, enjoy the local food trucks, and celebrate the wonderful community through these free activities. It doesn’t matter if you’re an experienced crafter or simply someone looking for a new hobby; Craft for YEG welcomes all.

What to know about Craft for YEG in the Park

What is Alberta Craft?

The Alberta Craft Council develops, promotes, and advocates for craft within the province. Since the 1980s, it’s successfully done this through operating galleries within Alberta (as well as operating the largest public gallery in the province), and organizing several exhibitions throughout the year.

The team behind the new free outdoor series is focusing on bringing together crafters and community organizations to “celebrate creativity and connection.”

When and where is Craft for YEG in the Park taking place?

Craft for YEG in the Park will be held this Saturday, Aug. 29, from noon to 4 p.m. at O-day’min Park.

What’s the best way to get there?

Public transit and driving are both viable options.

Is there parking?

There is an unpaved paid parking lot available directly south of the park itself. In addition to the unpaved lot, there’s another paid lot a block east at 101st Avenue and 105th Street.

You’ll be able to find exact parking rates and locations on the City of Edmonton’s website.

What crafts and workshops can I try?

This first gathering highlights Craft for YEG, a volunteer-led group which provides Edmonton hospitals and charities with meaningful crafted items. During this first event, the workshops include:

  • Beginner Knitting Workshop – Izzy Dolls at noon, 1 p.m., and 2 p.m.
  • Beginner Knitting Workshop – Face and Dish cloths at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.
  • Beginner Braiding Workshop – Pet Enrichment Toy at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.

  • Beginner Crochet Workshop – Connecting Hearts at noon, 1 p.m., 2 p.m., and 3 p.m.
  • Make a Softcover Book with Dawn Woolsey from noon to 4 p.m.

Is there food and drink on-site?

There will be food trucks available during the event with both food and beverage for purchase.
