This Disney World hotel brings animated movies to life and Canadians can stay for less

14 October 20267 Mins Read

Have you ever wondered what it would be like to explore your favourite Disney movie in real life? You know, swim with Dory and Nemo from Finding Nemo, or take a stroll down Radiator Springs from Cars. Well, a stay at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort might be the closest you’ll get.

Home to the largest resort pool in Walt Disney World Resort, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort brings some of our favourite childhood films to life, including Finding Nemo, Cars, The Lion King, and The Little Mermaid.

I recently had the opportunity to stay in one of its themed family suites, and luckily for me, it was right in the heart of Radiator Springs. From the larger-than-life characters greeting visitors to the smallest details inside the rooms, the resort has a way of making you feel like you’ve stepped straight into an animated movie.

And the best part? Canadians can actually stay and enjoy the resort for less, thanks to a special resort discount.

What it’s like staying at Disney’s Art of Animation Resort

The moment you step inside Disney’s Art of Animation Resort, you’re surrounded by sketches and design work of classic characters we grew up with. While I was checking into my room, I admired the artwork that hung on the lobby walls.

The main building is where you’ll find the Ink & Paint shop, along with the dining space, Landscape of Flavours.

Serving breakfast, lunch and dinner daily, Landscape of Flavours features five distinctive food shops serving fresh, made-to-order cuisine, according to the Disney website.

Of course, visiting Orlando, Florida in September is still as hot as you can imagine. And judging by the fogged-up windows and doors, the air conditioning was working overtime. Something I, for one, was extremely grateful for.

Once outside, I made my way over to the Cars section of the resort, walking past the Big Blue Pool, inspired by the Disney and Pixar movie Finding Nemo. The perfect spot to cool off after a day spent at the parks.

Luckily, the Cars-themed area was just steps away. You’ll be greeted by familiar faces like Doc Hudson and Mater before making your way to your room.

I stayed in one of the Cars Family Suites, where practically every corner pays homage to the beloved Pixar film.

From the car-inspired sofa and traffic cone lampshades to the car wash-themed washrooms and Radiator Springs artwork, no details seem to have been overlooked.

It’s playful, nostalgic and comfortable, with just enough thoughtful design touches to make the space feel like more than your typical themed hotel room.

The suite sleeps up to six adults, with one queen bed, a double-size pull-down bed, and a double-size sleeper sofa. There are also two bathrooms, which is a welcome bonus for families or larger groups.

Here you’ll get views of the Courtyard, another pool – the Cozy Cone Pool or the parking area. I had the pool view. After a long day at the parks, I considered this suite a sanctuary with a cushioned bed and, most importantly, air conditioning

While the rooms are a highlight, another perk of staying at Disney’s Art of Animation is how easy it is to get around.

The resort has access to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios via the Disney Skyliner. It’s a scenic way to travel between the parks, with connections through Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort and Disney’s Riviera Resort.

Just keep in mind that the Disney Skyliner will be closed for refurbishment from Jan. 24 through Jan. 30, 2027. There will be complimentary bus service available.

There’s even more animation magic at Disney’s Hollywood Studios

And speaking of animation, the magic doesn’t stop at the resort.

I also had the chance to explore the newly opened Magic of Disney Animation at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, which officially began welcoming visitors on Sept. 14, 2026.

Inspired by the iconic Walt Disney Animation Studios building in California, the new experience brings decades of beloved characters and animated films together under one roof.

One of my favourite highlights is the new Olaf Draws! Here, visitors can put their artistic skills to the test with a little help from everyone’s favourite snowman and Disney Animation artists.

I even tried my hand at drawing Stitch from Lilo & Stitch and, of course, Mickey. Needless to say, I’ll stick to writing. There’s also an adorable gallery filled with artwork and familiar treasures from animated classics, including Winnie the Pooh’s pot of hunny and Hercules’ gold medallion.

What other Disney World resorts are worth exploring?

Of course, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort isn’t the only place where you can experience a little magic outside the theme parks. I also had the chance to check out a few other Disney resorts, including the stunning Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, where I stayed during my first visit to Disney World, and Disney’s Port Orleans Resort.

Both experiences offered a different take on a Disney adventure. From the Victorian elegance of the Grand Floridian to the southern charm and New Orleans-inspired surroundings of Port Orleans, the two resorts offered a little something for every kind of traveller.

At Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, I enjoyed a delicious breakfast buffet at 1900 Park Fare, where Disney Characters stopped by to greet visitors. Among them were Aladdin, Cinderella, Mirabel from Encanto, and Princess Tiana from The Princess and the Frog.

Over at the Port Orleans side, the pace was a little more relaxed. I enjoyed a scenic horse-drawn carriage ride at the Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter and a water taxi adventure, exploring the grounds. And, of course, no visit would be complete without indulging in some powdered sugar-covered beignets.

A little taste of New Orleans without ever leaving Disney World.

How Canadians can save on Disney World Resort stays

Now that I’ve done enough convincing, it’s time to plan your next Disney trip.

Canadian residents can currently save up to 25 per cent on select room and ticket packages for travel next year.

According to Disney, the discount applies to four-night, four-day (or longer) Walt Disney Travel Company room-and-ticket packages, with eligible stays on most Sunday to Thursday nights from Jan. 3 to Feb. 25, 2027, and most nights from Feb. 28 to Oct. 2, 2027.

With this deal, you also get a free Memory Maker photo package – something of which you should take full advantage of.

You can learn more about the offer, including participating resorts and eligibility requirements, on Disney World’s official website.

Is Disney’s Art of Animation Resort worth staying at?

If you’re looking for a stay that brings a little childhood nostalgia into your Disney World vacation, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort truly delivers.

Between its larger-than-life characters, thoughtfully themed suites and convenient access to the parks, there’s a lot to appreciate beyond the movies that inspired it.

And whether you grew up watching Lightning McQueen race through Radiator Springs or singing along to The Little Mermaid, there’s something special about seeing those childhood favourites come to life.

The author was hosted by The Walt Disney Company (Canada) Parks & Resorts.
